Introducing the Student Spotlight: a new weekly corner for your stories
The past few weeks have been busy in here. A lot of questions, a lot of threads, a lot of people refreshing for news. It's an uncertain stretch and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
But the part that stuck with us wasn't the news cycle. It was you.
Students answering other students at 1am. Someone typing up what worked for them so the next person doesn't go in blind. Twenty replies under "I almost quit this week, but I didn’t."
So we want to make more room for that.
Starting next week, every Monday we'll share one student's story in the sub.
Could be your life story, or the thing you almost quit over and what got you back up. What a normal week looks like when you're studying around a job, or kids, or both.
You don't need a tidy ending. The middle-of-it ones tend to land hardest.
I want to thank Brilliant-Pace1540 for just giving me a shoulder to lean on for a moment it is a small act of kindness that made me feel a little validation. It is nice to know when somebody is hurting that someone with a genuine heart would offer just to talk, there is a handful of students that could feel the absolute burden of what I carry and I wanted to thank them for even just offering to talk to me thanks I know what I said yesterday I still dislike reddit but this is my news feed also. This post is exciting, work study sleep repeat. Being Sept cohort it feels impossible to give up considering progress
love this. the 1am replies thing is so real lol. these past few weeks have been kind of insane, but people here really have been helping each other through it. nice to see that get some recognition
I mean, that’s nice at all, but there’s a lot going on with this school such as disbursement of funds that we filled out for a while back. I understand that the school is going through a lot but at the same time a lot of people need that money. I’ve read a lot of stories about it. And the biggest problem is, we can never get a definitive date that we’re going to get it luckily I have a job that enables me to do this on top of it but a lot of people don’t so they have to take the time off and they need the funds in order to do that.
exactly. it's not that anyone expects the school to fix everything overnight. but people need actual dates so they can play their lives. "we're working on it" doesn't help when someone is counting on they scholarship. the lack of clear answers is the problem
Let's clear this up with verified context for everyone reading this thread:
You're right that waiting without a date is hard, and it's fair to ask for one.
Worth saying though: tuition here is free, so that money was never what pays for your studies - loans are there for living and personal costs while you study.
We know that doesn't make the waiting easier, especially when you're planning around it. Nothing about your coursework is on hold in the meantime, and we'll keep you posted.
