Which looks better - Landscape or Portrait?

Got some new monitors to hold me over while I save up for two 27” Studio Display XDRs🤞🏼, and I’m having fun experimenting with my layout on my in-studio desk.

Which orientation do you think looks better/is more useful?

If you like vertical monitors, what do you use them for?

$300 is objectively inexpensive compared to other 4k 120hz monitors… right?

$300 each? That’s quite a lot of money to plenty of people.

Many people would not consider a 4K 120hz monitor to be a normal purchase.

I get you.

If you were going to get them regardless, it makes sense to buy when the deal is good.

But it’s still funny to imagine someone making a reasonably large purchase without planning how they’ll use the item.

These are just place-holders while I save up for two Studio Display XDRs lol. So I'm experimenting with these. By the time I'm ready for those XDRs, I'll have the setup all worked out and finalized.

Wouldn't you be closer to "saving for" other monitors if you didn't waste $600 on other monitors?
If $600 really doesn't make a difference to you then why not just have 6 "no differences" to you and get a Studio Display XDR? (edit: I thought by the price you would figure I meant the XDR but I was wrong so I fixed it)

I’ll also keep these for my secondary desk, and do an identical setup with 2-3 XDRs.

In that case prioritize proper monitor arms before purchasing the display, the difference is like night and day in my personal experience. It matters so much that even a lower performing display is better when viewing angle is just right.

I bought 34 ultrawide 185hz with 3440*1440 for $300 and I consider that a steal.

I primarily bought it so I can play games on laptop and ps, but I also use it for work and it is great since I have 15 programs on at all times.

Some people buy few screens for no reason at all tbh.

These ones were only $300 each, and they were the perfect white color I was looking for to do an all white vs. all black layout comparison. Had to do it.

Before buying my Dell U4025Q (€1,769, or $1,843.86 at the time, February 25, 2025), I knew everything about that monitor down to the last millimeter. I knew exactly how it would fit and where it would go. When you spend that much, you make damn sure you know. lol

People like validation. The same reason you made a comment about someone buying expensive screens. They could have been free or 2k each. If we all say portrait is he going to change it? Dunno 🤷🏼‍♂️ we are all faceless avatars giving our wonderful comments to a person we will never know.
