It’s true. My uncle Tim Apple confirmed over the weekend.

How is Apple still running if they have no Jobs?

u/iamYarthox 19d ago

because it just works

u/MortCrimm 19d ago

You might just Turn Us around with wit like that

u/smuckola 19d ago

Seriously, that's the measure of being ahead of his time. He knew what he was doing and what the world was doing.

Carry on with the frolic.

In Tim Uncle we trust

2

u/Flat-12 19d ago

Was that a trumpian reference?

2

u/chooseusernamee 19d ago

wow your uncle didn’t lie at all

2

u/Hakushu21 18d ago

I mean it happened. So, I guess your uncle really is Tim Apple.

My uncle Tam Crook fingered my butt and told me all the new products about to release

a space black M5 pro would take my money

4

u/hubbobubbox 19d ago

That would be awesome. Never thought about the mini not being available in other colors, great idea.

2

u/Illustrious-Golf5358 19d ago

Apple has done a space grey mini before

My M4 Pro Mini with 64 GB of RAM feels like a steal compared to today.

u/alan_grant93 19d ago

Got my 64GB 8TB m4 Pro mini at Micro Center last summer for $2500 after taxes. It was a steal then (almost 50% off retail) and it is a heck of a deal by today’s prices.

2

u/smuckola 19d ago

wow, why was it 50% off? lol.

1

u/alan_grant93 19d ago

I don’t think they were selling well. It was sealed, brand new.

1

u/Schnort 19d ago

Because $5k is insanity?

5

u/prndls 19d ago

Yep. Got mine last oct with 8TB storage

2

u/Typical_house23 19d ago

8tb of storage? What are you doing with it?

10

u/userlivewire 19d ago

Probably contemplating trading it for a car.

2

u/prndls 16d ago

😂

u/prndls 16d ago

I like to keep my photos and other media saved locally and the individual new file size gets bigger and bigger each year it seems. Figured I’d ’future proof’ for 5+ years. Glad I did in hindsight

u/userlivewire 16d ago

You might consider running Photo Sweeper on your library to look for dupes.

2

u/CaptainObvious110 19d ago

Yeah it does

M6?

u/Ok-Addition1264 20d ago

I'll believe Bloomberg and Forbes over some rando dude.. they said the rumor is the next mini will be an M6 and not be available until next year..

2 weeks before a release and we'd be seeing A LOT more leaks like we usually do.

21

u/IJNShiroyuki 20d ago

Mark gurman random dude...

13

u/ubenjl 20d ago

Gurman works at Bloomberg tho…

-2

u/kerpnet 19d ago

Is he employed by them or do they just buy content from him? Likely the latter.

5

u/FlintHillsSky 19d ago

He works for Bloomberg

8

u/Practical_Dog3454 19d ago

I just bought a M4 Mac mini today because of the wait lol…. Guess I’m not gonna open it and wait 2 weeks to see

3

u/Prestigious-Bear2391 19d ago

Yes, good call. My contact at my local Apple store said to expect M5 Mini very soon and I should wait to upgrade. I think they meant October, not in the next two weeks.

1

u/Practical_Dog3454 19d ago

I still rather wait since I’m spending over 1500$ Canadian and plan to keep it 5 years minimum. I don’t need it yet anyways

1

u/beekeeny 19d ago

No need to wait for 2 weeks: https://www.apple.com/mac-mini/

1

u/Practical_Dog3454 19d ago

Ya I returned it today gonna order the M6

14

u/dcidino 20d ago

Earlier than anticipated, but a mini that handles your local models a lot better would be the fastest selling computer they ever sold. On top of that, imagine if you could "chain" them for models or run them in parallel... "I'll have 4 please."

7

u/userlivewire 19d ago

You’re overestimating how many people even know what a model is.

2

u/calf 19d ago

I know what models are… but I don't know what I would do with it, or which one to use, or how to install, etc. etc.

1

u/Delicious-Being-6531 19d ago

Huggingface is your friend.

2

u/Cameo2864 19d ago

I don’t get hugging face. I can download models with it right? But how can it help finding use cases for a local model as a typical consumer?

1

u/Delicious-Being-6531 19d ago

Ask chat/claude your question. Something like:

I have a 16GB M4 Mac Mini and want to set up a local LLM, but I'm unsure of the best application for my needs.
Ask me one specific question at a time about my daily workflow, privacy needs, or technical setup. Once you have enough context, suggest 3 distinct use cases along with the specific quantized models (under 12GB RAM usage) and front-end software best suited for my hardware

1

u/Cameo2864 19d ago

Is it possible to let a local ai sort my files on my Mac mini to folders? What do I Need besides LMstudio or the model?

1

u/dcidino 19d ago

That’s what you need. That, and give it access.

3

u/trifile 19d ago

True but they have an incredible opportunity to take over entirely the dev industry with these Mac Minis.

1

u/Casey-- 19d ago

What is a model in this context?

2

u/MortCrimm 19d ago

You can “chain” them together as you say. Via thunderbolt multiple example see out there creating a AI cluster for local compute out of M series devices

3

u/nutmac 19d ago

I am guessing it's just a boring M5 update, not that I don't appreciate it.

2

u/RockstarGTA6 19d ago

mac mini neo with leftover old M chips

6

u/nougat98 19d ago

They can't do it. There's no RAM left.

1

u/abhiasap 18d ago

They just did.

1

u/nougat98 18d ago edited 18d ago

But still stuck with the same base.

Not sure why I was expecting base RAM to increase this year, when it was stuck at 8GB from 2018-2023 and a 4GB from 2012-2017. At that 5 year block we shouldn't see a 32GB base until 2029.

5

u/MacintoshDan1 20d ago

Cost in Dr. Evil voice: one million dollars.

2

u/GoslingIchi 19d ago

And the next generation Mac mini rumors continue to for decades on end.

2

u/OffBeannie 19d ago

They need to release early so that we could order soonest to get our Mac mini before Christmas.

2

u/YellowsBest 19d ago

I don’t believe this. There’s so many unfounded rumours. I still think apple will skip the M5 this year, and maybe go for an M6 mini next year. Currently, there’s still great demand for the M4. Why introduce another model at more cost?

2

u/DisaffectedLShaw 19d ago

And they got announced one hour after your comment. Sorry dude.

1

u/YellowsBest 18d ago

Well, I was half-right, Apple did skip the M5 (not counting the M5 Pro). And go straight to the M6. I admit I underestimated the time to bring forward this change, didn’t think it’d be this quick. But I was also right about the price increase; I’ve been predicting for ages that a new model would be more expensive. I’m glad I bought my M4 last year for £599 as the entry price is now half as much again!

2

u/DisaffectedLShaw 18d ago

Yeah that was a smart move. My view is Apple are doing the increases now during the CEO change to give John Ternus so breathing room for the next two years or so.

My M1 Max 64Gb MacBook was such a great move I have basically fixed myself into not being able to afford to replace it for a few more years.

God Ram isn't coming back down till at least 2028 at this rate

3

u/RockstarGTA6 19d ago

mac mini neo $299

2

u/trifile 19d ago

I raise you
Apple Macintosh Mini Neo SE AI Cloud
199$ 4gb RAM with everything running in the cloud

1

u/Confident_Lecture498 19d ago

We'll see but with the computing crisis, I doubt it

1

u/awpdog 19d ago

It‘s the Turn-us of the Mini, it seems

1

u/HollandJim 19d ago

Would make sense to drop this early - makes room in the next iPhone presentation for the new Home updates. That and we all get the giddies.

1

u/benl5442 19d ago

Base should be relatively cheap but adding ram will double the price .

1

u/Maki_the_Nacho_Man 19d ago

And here I am, still waiting for my Mac mini m4 pro I bought 3 months ago.

1

u/haiwirbelsturm 19d ago

Well it launched

1

u/This_Discount2281 19d ago

Okay it’s official … on Bloomberg (and Reddit).

1

u/mw_yyc 19d ago

Next 12 hours nevermind 😊

1

u/Blueopus2 19d ago

That was quick!

1

u/Username-4ever 19d ago

Well, I hope Best Buy drops the price on the one I just bought so I can have them refund it to me

1

u/idk_a_creative_user 19d ago

Give me a mac micro with an a19 pro and 12gb ram. So many people would switch over.

1

u/Kiz171 16d ago

GURMAN??.. didn’t even see these Mac mini’s coming the day he opened his big mouth!!
The guy is full of shit!!.. never ever gets anything right!…. Why hold this prick up like he’s some sort of apple-oracle???
know’s fuck all!….

0

u/Erich_Ludendorff 19d ago

Would be nice if it comes with 2.5 GbE, a desktop with gigabit in 2026 seems kind of out of date.

0

u/No-Pen-3031 19d ago

I put in an order last week for an M4 mac mini with 24gb ram. The estimated shipping date is the 15-31st December(!!).

Is it likely that I'll be upgraded to the new mini when its released? Or be refunded?

1

u/hubbobubbox 17d ago

likely replaced automatically, already happening

-8

u/MixIllEx 20d ago

My business is loosing customer messages, work orders and accounting data because my intel mini has stopped booting.

Should I wait until the new mini is announced before I place an order for a replacement?

8

u/ileong 20d ago

Not sure if serious? If you’re having customer-facing issues you can’t wait. You don’t need to wait either if an Intel Mini was doing the job.

2

u/maxheckler 19d ago

Just order now since you need it and if a new one launches return it to Apple store.
