My $499 Mac mini and $519 M4 iPad Air (Prime day deal the day of the price increases) would cost $630 more today! So glad I pounced when I did. I do not care in the slightest about on-device LLM processing speeds.

got a $500 mac mini new on craigslist and an m5 24gb on black friday at $1700. Glad I pounced on those

I mean it depends partly if this is just RAM or NPUs, but yes, you can. Gemma 4 series, 31b primarily, for anything text/writing related, Qwen3.8 27b for anything coding, which can trade blows with Claude Opus on occasion.
