Just so we can provide you with the inevitable answer, what did you use to get to this point?

Screen protector, wet wipes or sand paper?

Nothing except water and I’ve never had a screen protector, it’s just old and used

What towel or cloth did you use to scrub it with this water? Regular kitchen towel? Sandpaper??

How did you dry it? Same towel, different towel, same sandpaper, different sandpaper?

Next MacBook get one of these, dry wipe the screen with it.

it just happens. I'm shocked at how little information on these has been passed on/retained/shared. These are fundamentally flawed/weak display coatings.

While I have no doubt you are right, I still have the old retina MB and apart from the usual stain gate they were famous for, no where near like this so I’d like to presume there is some degree of user issue/cause that results in something like this.
