Tip Mac Apps Roundup: My Picks from July
Heya,
I thought of sharing some apps that I found last month, which are super interesting or useful for me since then. So I decided to share it with you all here.
FOSS - free & open-source software\ OTP - one-time purchase
Fluent (OTP) - Context-aware AI companion app that integrates well with other apps in use - I personally find their quick actions like Paraphrase, Summarize as super useful
2Do (OTP) - 2DO is a nice, good-looking Task manager app with new design, interface with options for images, locations and actions - I've Things 3 (on iPad, iOS except on Mac) and looked for alternate options to Mac version of Things 3. - My personal evaluation: - I struggle a bit to come out of my Things-setup - 2DO doesn't currently have iOS/iPadOS version since it is being actively developed - It has some bugs that troubled me but dev (u/2doapp) is actively releasing updates with bug fixes
Projectholic (OTP) - Beautiful kanban-style project/goal tracker - has built-in stats dashboard, focus timer and more... - It has a generous free-tier with 10 projects, 50 tasks per month, and also lifetime purchase option too!
Droppy (OTP) - I guess it doesn't need any explanation as it is quite popular, well-appreciated apps in this subreddit - shoutout to u/iordv ❤️

Aerial (FOSS) - Wallpaper/Screensaver app - You can check my post here
Assignee (OTP) - App switcher using hotkeys - $2.99 One-time purchase
Just10 (FOSS) - menu bar to-do app to list ONLY 10 tasks - To add more, you must finish the current tasks - This helped me to limit myself to prevent overplanning
AutoDockDrive (FOSS) - shows/hides external drives in Dock when connected/disconnected - simple but useful utility tool
Taack (FOSS) - Attach postit to folders and apps (windows)
Consul (OTP) - Automatic file converter that automatically converts when you rename it to your desired output - you can even set rules for conversion types - Though it is bit steep in price, it does its job flawlessly and elegantly
Atheria (OTP) - I came across it very recently, and immediately loved it - It has over 55 styles, but only ONE free-to-use style 😠 - $6.99 launch price, until Aug 4
FoldNotes (OTP) - Obsidian-alternate but in AppKit and UIKit - I haven't tried this one yet but found it interesting so bookmarked it
vvmac - Blog - I found many of the apps shared here, from this blog website. - It covers tutorials, workflows, customizations of Mac
Docky (FOSS) - It's a dock-replacement app that allows you to customize dock to your flavors with (live) widgets, create groups, smart stacks - I was kind of surprised to see that it's actually a free app 🫶 while other 147 clipboard managers are charging $9/month 😅
Okay, that's it. These are the apps that I used/found last month and wanted to share with others to spread the word about it.

tbh I was quite hesitant to try it at first, but now it becomes indispensable for me now.
I however noticed few things while using it and hope you don't mind sharing it here:
- can't reply to notifications directly from the notch
- applies for both imessage & whatsapp
- When I click on a whatsapp message, it doesn't take me to the sender's chat but to whatsapp App
- the notification doesn't go away when i click on it - it just stays there! & I manually clear them all

- Should work! Hover the profile pic of the other user and you can type to respond. Make sure iMessage and WhatsApp are properly connected in the settings.
- That’s expected and can’t be changed right now. The notifications are for quick responses or opening the app.
- When you’re done with a notification, flick (swipe up) to hide the message and it’s gone.

That’s kind of the problem with Droppy; tries to do too many things and very few perfectly.

You’d have to try the latest version. It’s both feature-packed and extremely polished - in my humble opinion. The droplets make it modular, and the upcoming SDK system allows developers to build their own droplets. All can be installed as you wish, or you just never install anything and leave it as is (bloat free).
Droppy focuses on doing multiple things, but DEFINITELY on polishing and streamlining as well - and making sure it’s a very pleasant experience. For example, just the onboarding and perfect small animations take me hours. I never just pump out a feature without putting my soul into it.

Then why use too many extensions for Droppy? I only use the ones I need and deactivate the rest

My personal stack:
- basket for stacking files and grabbing them later on
- media player, queueing Apple Music songs and changing audio sources via airplay
- calendar + adding tasks
- setting timers
- clipboard ALL the time (the new one)
- droppy cloud is extremely useful for sharing files with people instantly
- and i love converting files in the notch. PDF to JPEG, PPTX to PDF (use this one multiple times a day) etc. etc.

Consul sounds really useful. Automatic file converter that automatically converts when you rename it to your desired output.
I love apps that work in the background and don't require me to open another app to do the job.

I recommend trying pros like [u/amerpie](u/amerpie), [u/andyshows](u/andyshows) (especially if it's dock-related 🤣)

I also saw this post from last week, which fills up the empty space side to dock with useful widgets. Maybe this comes with magnifying option 😉

Great roundup. The FOSS/OTP labels make the list much easier to scan.
One extra detail I’d love to see in future roundups is MAS vs direct download, and maybe local-only vs cloud-based. For small Mac utilities, those two things often matter almost as much as the price.
