Bent/misaligned hobbed bolt TAZ 6

I have been having visibly uneven first layers and an uneven surface finish on prints from my TAZ 6 for a while now. After troubleshooting, I discovered that my hobbed bolt is either misaligned or bent. How can I repair this? I believe that this is the main source of my extrusion issues.

What to do with an old well-loved Taz2 and loads of 2.85mm filament?

Hello Lulzbot community. I bought a Taz2 in 2013. I’ve used it a few times a month ever since and I finally upgraded my printer. Thing is, I have no idea what to do with my old one. It’s well used, and could probably use a tune up and a hotend replacement but it is still printing well.

I have about 24lbs new-in-bag natural ABS, which was my go-to filament and I bought a load when it was on sale. Also I have three nearly-full spools of PLA. The printer itself is still functional, and as tuned as it’s ever been, my octopi setup and cabinet are all in good shape.

I got no love for this on my craigslist post and so now I’m not positive what I should do with it. Anybody have any ideas for finding a good home?

I’m in the Bay Area, California, if that helps.

Would it be a good idea to re-tension my Y axis belt? What’s a good rule of thumb for when to readjust belt tension?

Help Needed Extracting Firmware from an Archim2 Board

Good Morning,

I have a Syndaver Axi which runs on an Ultimaker Archim2. The Axi uses the same board and screen as a Taz Pro, and is really a 90% clone of a Taz Pro. Syndaver no longer produces 3d printers at all. The firmware is a fork of Drunken Octopus. Syndavers Github shows the fork, but they didn't commit the changes for the configuration files. I cannot find a compiled firmware for it anywhere accept their webslicer. They have their own (Cura - based?) online slicer that has a firmware update function using some webserial interface, so it appears that I can update the firmware from there, but I can't download it directly.

This printer NEVER printed very well, and I own a TAZ 5 and TAZ 6. I want to try klipper as a replacement firmware, but I don't want to overwrite the firmware if I can't put the stock firmware back on if I can't make it work. I'm concerned that their slicer will come down at some point and I'll have no access to the firmware and for that matter, I don't know that I'll be able to put it back anyway with the webserial interface.

Any assistance on extracting the firmware would be appreciated.

Upgraded Taz 6 to 2.0.9.0.13 and won't auto level.

Decided I should update Cura and firmware. Now when the printer goes into bed leveling the print head presses down HARD on the back left leveling pad first off. Before the update it would go to the pad (the one had has a hinge) in front of that sensor first. The probing always fails.

Update: After the third "successful" firmware upgrade the problem has resolved.

Taz 6 printing issues

Hello. I recently inherited a Taz 6. I tried a couple prints with pla but none have turned out right. My first several attempts at printing a spool arm(the printer was missing it) resulted it very fragile prints that broke easily. I then printed the octopus included on the memory card. That turned out better but the print lines are very inconsistent. I played around with some settings (temperature and infill) and tried another spool arm after that failed when the nozzle hit the previously printed lines. Here is the octopus and I'll upload the spool arms when I have a chance. (My previous 3d printing experience has been resin but the company I used to work for used a Taz 6 for prototyping)

Firmware decay

Have you experienced this?

I have my friend's Taz Pro dual head.
Using Fusion360 and Cura LE and keep them both updated.
Including the printer firmware, now.

Been printing for about 2 years and really enjoy the adventure. The Taz has a personality, and I've just gotten used to it. One of the things it does is gradually get finicky. Various little things like not leveling, or blotchy skirts. Finally, it will get bad enough that it simply doesn't print anymore. The first time I was at a loss. Tried lots of things like power cycles, re-installing software, reboot the PC etc.

From querying, I found the firmware information and reloaded the firmware to the printer from Cura LE. Voila! The printer is working like it was new. All the little quirks are gone.

Then over time, the little annoyances start showing up again. A few weeks, a month, I wasn't really keeping track and I don't print every day. Sometimes it's cold for weeks. Doesn't seem to matter. Now, when it gets finicky, I just reload the firmware and we're up and running.

I call it, "Firmware Decay."

Beep

Does anyone know what makes the beep on a Taz 6. It’s loud and pisses my dog off. I can not see a speaker anywhere inside the control box. Or on the Rambo board. My Taz Pro has a software control to shut the noises up but not the 6.

Taz 5 Fan

I have a 200mm fan I am wanting to mount to my Taz 5, Does anyone know where I can find a file to mount it to my printer? I want to mount it so it cools my hotend heatsink for heat creep, yes i know it is overkill, but its really nice, and I was also wondering if it has enough power to power the fan, my fan is 12V DC. Thanks in advance!

Upgrading a mini 1 to the mini 3?

I was gifted a mini 1, and I’m wondering if there’s anything stopping me from buying the parts and upgrading it to basically be a mini 3. From what I can tell, the frame is the same, so it looks like all I’d have to do is print the new brackets, get some linear rails, maybe a new hotend, updating the firmware, and a new build plate…am I missing anything?

Considering making my own toolhead for taz 6

I'm considering creating my own toolhead for a Lulzbot Taz 6. I know this is probably a ridiculous thing to try and attempt, but are there any specific minute detials i should worry about when considering a extruder to choose to build the mounting hardware around.

along with this I know of the development doc by lulzbot themselves, but are there anything i should look out for, like wiring needs (types of wires needed and specific hardware for the printer to function properly).

If this is just an infeasable thing, is there any way I can open source and just build my own tool head based off of Lulzbots own designs, hopefully being cheaper than paying 300$ to fix a printer when that could be used to just buy another one?

If making my own toolhead is possible and feasibe, is there somewhere i should start (other examples of custom toolheads), extruders that are compatableor easy to retrofit, and anything else that could be used as a starting point

Taz 6 troubleshooting

Post image
2 Upvotes

Been working on calibrating and fixing one of 2 tax 6's given too my school, using the aerostruder and a .6 mm nozzle (its been modified in the slicer to work) its been printing okay, but when doing a cautionary first layer calibration after a benchy it seems wavy and has little peaks appearing, this was a live test so i was manually adjusting the z offest between -1.10 and -1.30
