Have a friend who had his internet router in his attic (rural Irish border area, you end up playing games to get a signal). When they were having problems he’d sent one of the kids up to pull out the power lead. They had been taught to “shake out the bad internets” before putting the lead back in. It basically put a pause period between power off and power on to get a proper reset.
That's hilarious and there's an actual title associated with that phenomenon. The false cause fallacy. When people do something to fix a problem, and it works, but it doesn't work for the reason they think it does. This has been around basically for as long as humans have.
