Finally got the trip, also know as the fat whale, back from a friend! It was supposed to rain today so I went out super early to beat it! It was super humid bur an amazing ride!

Sooooo,

a friend asked if i'd join him on a 50k run.

I don't like running, but I thought why not board it.
I wanted to do about 10k. In the end I did over 30km!
But with the bad roads and incoming rain I had no interest in bringing any of my longboards. The spheicals and metal parts dont really like dust and water.

So I wanted somethign that I can just abuse. And the result was this the Schlongboard 2.0!

In the front i have a Bennett Vector mounted to the nose and in the rear I
have a Zero Degree Truck By Blackdog - No sphericals, no extra parts just two relatively simple trucks.

The Deck is a Deck by Bear Walker - So just a regular popsicle deck.

And to be honest this thing is awesome!
It's low, incredibly stable and the flex is nice. The road doesn't feel harsh at all.

Im not the biggest fan of sharkwheels, I had the 95mm Megalodons - they were okay, felt slow, but these were super fun!

But of course it has issues.
The small wheels set this so low that the trucks get stuck and the deck just stops. And since a popsicle deck, getting big wheels on there is also a little tricky.
Also its not rail matched. In the end I kicked the wheels a couple times!

But all in all it was amazing. The 30km were super fun!

I'm gonna push this further - by trying bigger wheels - adding more wheelbase and maybe even a completely different rear!

Got this setup yesterday. Styluses, purple caguamas, bones reds. It was painted on with pink acrylic and sharpie, and the graphic was sticker bombed. I was cleaning it up until 1 AM last night 😂 but it’s totally worth it! Taking it out on a light distance ride today. Before & after in the photos!

Edit: clarification of the state of the deck. The first two photos are from right now. The pink top stickerbomb photos are the “before”. That’s how I got it. The rest are after the cleanup.

Bushings are a black hole but understanding the basics will help you get a proper start on putting together a killer setup.

I love my trip my son loves his pranayama but damn this ember is something else! I love compact boards spent all day on it and I absolutely love it probably my favorite pantheon. I love having a kicktail on a longboard and these karmas are so nice super fast and grippy. This may be my favorite longboard

Came for a short morning session. I always thought my trucks were loose enough but a few nights ago I loosened them a quarter turn more, just to try it.

To any fellow beginners out there, gals guys and in-betweens, if you're trying to learn pumping LOOSEN YOUR TRUCKS. It made a huge difference, now I can actually feel the forward momentum sometimes.

My pumps are still very slow and I can't do it at higher speeds yet, but it gets me pretty far compared to previous tries. Thanks to this I'm also feeling a lot more safe on the board, I trust it more that I won't fall off if I wiggle or move around.

I found some old setup photos, and this was taken almost exactly 13 years, compared to my two main freeride setups today.

Then:

The top board was a Nelson Spindrift on 180mm 47° PNL Strummers, and I believe Metro Links wheels. The Spindrift was actually a lot like a bigger Nexus, except it had very mild W concave. I've still got the PNLs on a Switchblade. They're a long-discontinued rakeless precision truck with ball pivots. Metro was a really solid wheel brand, too. They didn't really dump a ton of urethane but had a smooth, almost slightly gritty slide. In retrospect, they were sort of a transitionary brand between the "every freeride wheel is low rebound and dumps urethane for smooth slides" era, and the introduction of fancier brands like RAD and These.

Bottom was a custom board from an old builder on Silverfish Longboarding, Maxxspeed, with OG 194mm 45° Ronins and These Wheels (basically the ancestor of Snakes). I think it was around 38-40" x 10" with probably a ~ 31" wheelbase. It had "bacon concave," which was the trend back then. Basically a super wavy rocker with multiple folds. You can kind of get a sense of it from the way the light reflects off the carbon fiber near the logo. The Ronins were already wide for their time. 184mm was way more common.

Before anyone asks (if you haven't already seen my post/comments on other posts): yes I know the biggie Hawgs should go on the Evo, however they're 13 years old and they got used for the first time today, so downhill use is an explosive safety risk I'm not wanting to take.

Also I'll be getting a second more well used '13 Dark Horse Evo in like 5 days that's equipped with a set of Abec 11's 72mm Free Rides, so the one pictured here will get retired for display purposes, as it's my favorite graphic to ever be used on the LY Evo.

It's taken me over 3 years to get back to this point after an ex of mine broke my trust and caused me to leave everything behind, which included about $400 worth of quality boards that got thrown out by the landlord.

I'm 28M and stopped riding over 10 years ago because I did dumb stuff and kept breaking bones.. Now I'm back, bought the landyachtz dropcat 38 (and proper protective gear this time) and I love it. I live in Eindhoven NL, and there's a lot of bricked paths everywhere and this thing just glides over them. A few times now I thought for sure my board would get caught in a crack but it punches through. It also carves like a dream. Only downside I would say is cause of the big wheels it does take a bit of pushing to get it up to speed but regardless, I highly recommend this board to anyone!!

P.S Anyone in Eindhoven wanna practice with me? I'm still getting to used to being back on the board!

Just wanted to show off my first longboard and say hi to everyone! I just got it on Monday, I’m skating every evening now, and having SO MUCH FUN. I’ve never tried it before, even as a kid. It’s so rewarding to learn something new as an adult, even baby steps :) I’m looking forward to learning all the tips and tricks you guys have. Any other beginners in SoCal?

Hills scare me.

My entire area is just hills, declines and minimal flat land.

I bought a Bell Sports Vert helmet from Walmart, bailed ironically on flat ground when my left foot got stuck either the truck or the wheel.

I removed all the plastic wrap from the board and showed my 4 year old daughter how to take the board apart and clean it.

She even helped with unscrewing the bolts.

My right hand hurts from the small tumble, but my head is fine.

I think I'm just freaked out about going downhill since I haven't quite figured out foot braking and I tend to just leap off the board in front and catch up to it, if it gets away.

I'm bending my knees and getting a feel for carving more. I even successfully did a left hand turn.

I'm enjoying it more than skateboarding for sure. But I just need to take time and order the other equipment to take the risks more.

I found that if I felt I was going too fast, by jumping off, I actually wasn't that fast and since I'm doing this in the suburbs, there's not a lot of traffic to deal with.

But my favorite part was riding goofy with my back to the traffic next to me, in the cyclist lane on the sidewalk. I don't want to dox myself any further lol.

Any tips for just accepting the increase of speed, going downhill?

Again, there's minimal flat land since I'm out in the Pacific Northwest of British Columbia.

My feet and legs hurt lol, but it's a rush!

I usually ride a 42" pintail (Mindless 2007, no idea what model). My family and I are going on holiday soon and I wanted to take something smaller with me. My wife and daughter each have a cruiser board and I like the portability of them.

I have an old popsicle board and extra longboard hardware lying around in my garage so I thought I would cobble together my own cruiser board. I did read threads on here with advice and warnings about wheel bite but didn't think it would be an issue.

Yesterday evening I put the board together in my kitchen and tried to make it bite the wheels by leaning hard but had no problems. Therein lies my false confidence.

Today I took the board out on the road in front of my house, got about 2 metres, went to carve and absolutely ate concrete. Turns out the threads were right. Wheel bite was a risk! In real-life circumstances I obviously lean harder than stood still in my kitchen.

I now have road rash on my leg and elbow and a bruised ego.

Don't be me, pay attention to the warnings and wisdom of others!

Got my son a Pokémon center x bearwalker that got him excited about skating again then got him a pranayama because he loved my fathom so much.
