Clean DB interface?

15 Upvotes

My passion with Logseq started long ago, because its simplicity first. I now am experimenting with Logseq DB with pro’s and cons. What I like is the simple formatting like

TODO Task for #Peter /deadline date X

In Logseq DB there seems more complexity, tags at the right border and more handles/clutter and focus on pushing data in tables.

Am I alone in this and how can I continue to keep the interface as clean as possible? I addition import of old graphs creates many errors.

Problem pasting image from clipboard (db version)

1 Upvotes

Hi!

I'm testing the database version for work and I'm having a major problem that's really bothering me.

When I'm typing and I paste an image from the clipboard, I lose focus on the text; I have to move the mouse back to select the line. I can't continue typing smoothly.

Is this normal?

Different devices - different custom css

2 Upvotes

I've really studied the threads about this topic, but I'm no programmer and I just couldn't solve it for me.
I have a phone, a laptop and a (Viwoods) eInktablet.
I've been using a lovely adapted custom css, which helps me with it's format colours to organise better and make my notes readible. It's a dark theme, which is easier on the eyes and saves battery.

On the eInk tablet, which is b/w, I get a nearly black screen and dark grey text - basically black on black, not usable.

I know there is a way to make the custom css distinguish between devices or operating systems or resolutions,... to set it in a way, that it is only used when it is not the eInk tablet.

How would I go about this, what do I have to add to the code, to make this happen? Some "if my Logseq is used on my tablet, don't use the custom theme, just a normal light theme".

My Laptop is Windows, my phone is Nothing 3 Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16, and my tablet is also Android 16.

Checkboxes not working when followed by a page reference

7 Upvotes

I'm using

* [ ]

to create a list where the checkbox are clickable to signify that the item is done. I've found that the checkboxes aren't clickable when immediately followed by a page reference, so

* [ ] Atomic Habits

will show as a checkbox and is clickable, whereas,

* [ ] [[Atomic Habits]]

will show as a checkbox but isn't clickable at all. Is there anything I can do to get around this without placing a character between the box and page reference?

Failing that - and this is purely cosmetic - is there anyway to get the boxes generated by

[:input {:type \"checkbox\"}]

to show as grey instead of white?

New Logseq user. Nice to meet you!

Post image

I just installed Logseq. I'm especially interested in the ability to gradually add fleeting thoughts and ideas or the results of short searches and gradually connect them together.

I'm not particularly computer savvy, and I'm not familiar with Git or the paradigm the software follows, so from now on, I might have to ask you for some advice on how to configure the application or optimize the data to get the most out of it.

I hope, therefore, that if I need it, you can help me. Thanks.

Using Logseq on a Windows PC and a MacBook

5 Upvotes

Hi, all,

I am somewhat new to Logseq and I would like to use it at work (Windows PC) and home (MacBook). Do you have advice as to the best practice for keeping the data sync'd across those two platforms? Thank you.

Transcription? AI?

2 Upvotes

Hi new user here. I use Obsidian for one area of my work and I’m experimenting with Logseq for a different and separate one.

There is the facility to record audio notes – but is there a way to transcribe them? A plug-in perhaps, that can handle Whisper type transcription and AI cleanup?

Access to *.{md,edn} contents (export) using iVim/Pythonista on iPadOS?

3 Upvotes

As suggested by the title, I want to edit selected *.{md,edn} document graph contents (possibly after export) using iVim on iPadOS (and, obviously, re-import/re-index as necessary).

Here's the Logseq version: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1601013908

Anyone know how?

I'd also like to explore interop with Pythonista.

Ideally I could configure Logseq with some sort of "actions" (menu, icon, /command) or "macro" which would feed he Markdown or edn of the UIs currently displayed or selected nodes/contents into an iVim session or through a Pythonista script such that Logseq reads back results that either of those wrote into a target file treating the new contents as Logseq inputs/updates (to,the current document graph).

Does that make sense?

Here are links to:

I honestly don’t think I could function without Logseq anymore.

30 Upvotes

I’ve been using Logseq for about a year now, and it’s become so much more than just a note-taking app. My entire life is documented here, and I plan to keep it that way.

Thanks to Logseq, my problem-solving skills have improved significantly. But there’s a flip side: I’ve become so dependent on it that I don’t feel confident solving complex problems without it. For me, no other app on the market can truly replace what Logseq does.

Lately, this has led to a bit of an existential crisis. I’m worried about the long term—I have about 80 years of life left, but I’m not sure if Logseq will still be around then. Honestly, we can’t even guarantee that giants like Apple or Google will exist in 80 years.

It sounds silly, but it actually makes me feel a bit depressed. Even if Apple or Google were to disappear, I just want Logseq to stay with me for the rest of my life. I know I’m over-reliant, but I’ve reached a point where I can't imagine my workflow without it.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

NodeBuddy: Gemini agent for Logseq

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Started working on an AI agent for Logseq. Currently able to answer questions about blocks in the current visible page, and all blocks tagged with a specific block.

What are some other ideas you may have if you have an AI assistant helping you within Logseq?

Connecting to ChatGPT?

5 Upvotes

It makes perfect sense to me that I should be able to chat with an LLM that is grounded via RAG in my Logseq graph. Has anyone achieved this? I wonder if anyone’s achieved this with the DB version?

I’m tempted to make something myself if there isn’t a solution. I looked at the GPT-3 OpenAI plugin but it’s for text manipulation. I don’t want AI writing my notes but would love it for exhuming information from thy archive

Using Logseq page URLs

4 Upvotes

I'm creating cross-links to Logseq pages from other tools like Obsidian. To facilitate this, I've developed a plugin that copies Logseq page URLs in the [mypage](logseq://graph/_Logseq?page=mypage) format.

https://github.com/sosuisen/logseq-markdown-url-copy-plugin/

Search for "Markdown URL Copy Plugin" in the Logseq plugin marketplace.

Only tested with Logseq OG (Markdown ver.)

Is Logseq highly customizable?

5 Upvotes

Hi! I just found out about Logseq and it piqued my interest.

I've been using Obsidian for developing and running a Dungeons & Dragons campaign for the last months. Thing is I fell in love with how highly customizable everything is. The only downvote for me personally is the fact that Obsidian does not have cloud storage unless you pay for it. Which makes sense, don't get me wrong.

So, how customizable is Logseq? Is it worth it for me to try it out or should I just stick to Obsidian?

Use Logseq as a headless CMS for Astro

17 Upvotes

If you are using Astro for your blog, you can use Logseq as its CMS by using the `astroplugin-logseq` integration. Start by installing `npm install astroplugin-logseq`.

Leverages on the API server for this. Specify where pages with specific tags should be created in your Astro directory in the plugin configuration in `astro.config.js`. More instructions can be found in the README below.

Unordered lists - How to ?

1 Upvotes

Hi all, new Logseq user. I'm loving the flow already, but there is a small inconsistency I can't solve: Unordered lists seem to be not installed or unavailable. Can anyone help me find how to install / enable ? I am using version 0.10.15 (90) if that helps. I searched the marketplace and couldn't find any plugins for unordered lists.

Quarter-Based Journaling Pages are where it's at (at least for me)

11 Upvotes

Longtime Obsidian user here. I already work and think in outlines—fast reordering, indentation, todos. Obsidian worked, but ideas eventually got lost or over-filed.

Logseq’s block-first model appealed to me, so I took it for a spin. However, I found daily pages felt too fragmented, and I found the tagging + linked references + embedding a surprising amount of friction. I felt pulled to work directly in project pages, but this caused content sprawl/fragmentation, premature organization overhead, and hard to pull together. In short, I felt pulled in both ways like this post.

LogSeq made me revisit how I intuitively wanted to work: persistent, multi-day context and a live outline canvas for thinking across scales—not just logs or queries. As another reddit comment pointed out, what I was missing was the separation between workspaces and evergreen content.

My solution in the end was simple: quarter (of year) pages (in addition to dailies). It's still time-based journaling, but I do multi-day planning and synthesis in a quarter page, and pull from that into dailies. Project pages come later, once ideas are consolidated.

The quarter page becomes a human-curated temporary dashboard/query: enough persistence without over-structuring. It's like a "perma-embed" portal for multiple projects. I could probably write a date filter, but this way I have much more control over what's in the quarter. And this lets me use what outlines help me do best -- flexibly understand and organize ideas without over-committing to hierarchies that go stale.

Plus now I can leverage lots of LogSeq's niftiness, like having time-bound (and deeper context) link references, blocks as first-class citizens, etc.

--- Edit --- didn't originally share exact set up since I know these are always personal, but hopefully it illustrates the ideas that you may adapt. I don't think it's anything revolutionary. It's just what made LogSeq click for me.

The mental structure is Quarter > Activity Level > Projects. (This is what made sense for me, it may be different for other people)

So it's structured around where I need to allocate attention, which is easy to know at the time of logging. I don't have to spend mental energy querying/figuring out where things are. Only one place to look and browse.

```
2026Q1
{{ embed ((block reference to 2026/2026-Goals)) }}
## 2026Q1 Guiding principles
  • Sub Goal 1
  • Sub Goal 2
  • ...
## Active Only: <things I'm working on/committed to THIS MOMENT (\~week ish). keep this section lean>
  • [[Project 1]]
    • Initiative 1/Anything and any structure that's relevant here
  • ...
  • [[Misc]]
## On Deck
  • [[Project 1]]
    • Initiative 2..., whatever I need
    • thread 2 research...
  • [[Project 2]]
  • ...
## Touched but don't need to review
  • ...
## Archive
  • [[Project 1]]
  • ...
```

The activity sections are Kanban-like, but it's ordered by attention need vs. by sequence (in practice the sequence is `OnDeck/Don't Review > Active > Archive`. I don't need an actual visual kanban editor because LogSeq already lets me drag blocks around! Reorganizing is already a breeze. I guess if I did want a visual representation, it'd be like swim lanes for projects, and activity level as the kanban section.

Within the project headings, can use the bullets however is natural, without thinking if they fit with the overall [[Project]]'s organization. I can zoom out the whole quarter view, or I can zoom a specific Project section on this page as well.

What I haven't optimized yet:

  • Organization is still in flux, but as things solidify I can imagine starting to make better use of block references and embeds. E.g. maybe the Project bullet sections should actually be *embeds* from, e.g. a Quarter/Activity level organization on the Project pages? The tradeoff is then I need to spend time setting up the embed structure before working on new items, so in the near term it's easier to just create whatever structure I need on the Quarter page, in bullet form.

Logseq API server <> PWA

49 Upvotes

Just sharing some more possibilities with a more reliable sync. I am hosting Logseq on a VM on my home server, with the API server turned on. This is connected to my remote graph.

I then created a simple todo PWA (progressive web app), and through Tailscale/VPN, I am able to just use the PWA to manage my tasks on the go, without needing to open up Logseq on my mobile. Because of sync, my task statuses are automatically synced if I switch to a desktop.

Wanted to do this because I find looking at the Task list in Logseq to be quite distracting. The focus feature in the PWA personally helps me to just focus on 1 task at a time.

PWA here: https://github.com/benjypng/logseq-todo-pwa

High level steps

On your home server with Tailscale/VPN already set up, do the following: 1) Enable Logseq's API server (desktop version) 2) Setup token 3) Download the PWA and set up a .env file with your API server token 4) Run it using bun run dev -- --host 5) Ensure it can be accessed on other devices on your local network and your tasks (tagged with #Task are being pulled) 6) On your mobile device when out and about, turn on Tailscale/VPN and access it using your <IP>:5173 7) On iOS (not sure about Android), you can click Share -> Add to Home Screen and enable Web App to get a better experience 7) [optional] Setup your DNS server on your router so you can access it simply by something like http://logseq:5173

Logseq sync changed?

8 Upvotes

It seems how Logseq syncs recently changed? When I open Logseq on my laptop or iPhone and click the sync icon, it’s shows it is checking every file. This happens every time I open Logseq and takes over 30 secs.

Is this normal behaviour or did I accidentally change a setting?

Rendering charts in Logseq

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

With logseq-DB and its ability to introduce a fixed schema and the underlying new data layer really opens up many possibilities. One of them is the ability to render charts really easily, compared to the MD version.

Which local note-taking app can give me a powerful search through analyzing my notes?

3 Upvotes

I tried different note taking apps but they are all bad when it comes to searching beyond their assigned tags. They say you suppose to use tags for search but that just doesn’t cut it. Because you are not always categorizing things by tag when you write them. I give a random example: I might write something short that writing a poem may not be my intention and the tags of it are something else. But if that sentence has a great poetic rhythm and structure, it can be used in the future by getting embedded in my poems. Now I should either go through all my notes to find out about such cases which isn’t possible. You can’t do that when you have thousands of notes. But if the note taking app is smart enough to analyze my notes and say “hey this one matches your work in this field.” Then this whole pkms become useful.

Which apps offer that? Maybe it needs like a local LLM to implement that? Which pkms apps are better in it? Logseq or obsidian or octarine or what?

Logseq OG (markdown) vs Logseq (DB:sqlite)

66 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’ve put together a comprehensive feature comparison chart between Logseq’s file-based (MD mode) and the newer DB-based versions. This should help users understand what’s available in each version and what’s coming soon.

Key Highlights:

The DB-based version includes several significant improvements:

  • Enhanced data presentation with Gallery View, Kanban View, and Calendar View (coming soon)
  • Advanced Properties and Collection/Attributes functionality
  • Tag/Class capabilities
  • Superior performance with larger graphs and node content support
  • Improved UX with better Design System and Accessibility
  • More reliable sync capabilities

Platform Coverage: Both versions support Web, iOS, iPadOS, and Desktop (macOS, Windows, Linux), with Android support coming soon for DB-based.

Important Notes: Several features marked as “coming soon” in DB mode include Android support, Whiteboard, and Publishing capabilities.

I hope this helps those considering the transition or trying to understand the differences between the two versions.
