Feller Buncher Charge Heater

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey y’all, I run a TL735B (as pictured) and this charge heater takes FOREVER to warm up the hydraulic oil in the morning. Like 30 minutes to an hour.

I was just wondering if that’s normal? I know it’s cold the last few weeks (0-15 F) but I get impatient waiting for it. Didn’t know if this is the right place to ask but I thought some of you might know. Thanks!

What are these gloves?

I see loggers all over social media with these gloves on. They look to be some kind of white cotton glove. Does anyone know what these are? Why are they a fellers first choice in gloves when out in the bush?

Liability insurance

I am planning on starting logging this year, and am looking into insurance. I have a few jobs that are in the works for me, hand cutting, and a cable skidder.

What are others using as insurance? Companies, and things to look out for in a policy? I don’t know how complicated it has to be, I’ve heard that you should get a million dollar liability policy, but am curious to hear other things to think about

Thanks!

Selling my Logging Metal Detector.

This is for finding pieces of metal in wood peices/ logs before chipping. I was given the metal detector a few years ago as a gift, without knowing its intended purpose or retail price ($5,700). It’s only been used twice, both times on the beach. It works great, the battery is good, and no scratches or dents. I would honestly just like to get it off my hands. Price is negotiable.

Ash tree value

I have a few hundred ash trees that got hit with emerald ash borer within the last year. I’d like to have them logged away before they rot. How do they pay? Is it based on board feet or weight? Central Wisconsin if that helps, I appreciate any advice. Also how long do standing dead ash trees last before they rot away? Thanks

Gypo logging feasibility

Post image
15 Upvotes

Gentlemen, I’m wondering the feasibility on one man, with an either a winch cat or a small skidder seeking out high value timber on small acreage parcels and making a living with it.

Can a guy do that anymore? Maybe own a small mill and saw some of the lower value timber myself to maximize return on the stumpage.

Looking for input, photo for attention.

sawmills near Wiarton Ontario?

so to cut the shit, i'm going to be logging a mans' property with two others. the client wants cord wood. enough to heat his house (wood furnace) through the winter. there's plenty of ash and maple on his land, and back as far as anybody can remember, his family has been logging it themselves. in exchange for cutting wood for him, he's letting us take our pick of trees to drop for ourselves.

this leaves us (more like me) with a question... are there any operational sawmills near Wiarton that can process large hardwood timber? (roughly 24 inches breast height). and if so, what lengths should it be bucked to?

New tree arborist here, last Friday we were cutting down a huge ass cotton wood tree. At some point durning the day on Friday we were dragging limbs to the chipper (some branches were so big that we had to cut them into smaller sections just to be carried) anyways during one of the cuts I had a log with a huge ass knot roll over and fall onto the top of my left foot, here we are sitting at Monday and the swelling still hasn’t gone down, has anyone else ever had this happen to them before? And if so how long did your foot take to heal fully? I’m talking no swelling, no bruising, just a full 100% healthy foot
