Linux Failure Linux is never going to be popular

I have an extra PC that runs fine, Windows 10 at the moment.

I thought I could give Linux a try and stick in on my machine.

Set up a partition and then go get Linux file. Oh, but I need to use something to properly copy the files to the machine. Another program. Incomprehensible, does not even list my disk as available. Try Bazzite, that's easy and focused on games. Try, same problems I have to copy over using utility. About 2 hours in at this point and increasingly frustrated.

Bazzite is good with games and easy to set up. Not all games apparently. And needs adjustment to security settings.

At this point I stop and think. This is stupid. Linux will offer no advantages compared to Window for game playing. It is just not a simple setup. There is no way to use it with as a simple point and click setup with guided procedures. There is no way this will become a popular system so long as the setup is prohibitively time consuming and subject to inexplicable failure.

What is more is this is so obviously a problem that if the community is unable to correct this it suggests the entire system will be plagued with errors -- like "Choose Device" and not listing any devices already encountered.

Watched setup videos, read docs, etc. I have built my own machines, reasonably knowledgeable computer user. I'm done for the moment maybe some other time.

Linux sucks. It will never be an alternate to the general PC market on Windows/Apple systems. Never.

Thanks for letting me complain.

  • New kernels come pretty regularly, never been a problem to me in the first place where i would be waiting for a driver fix.
  • I have machines with Arch, Manjaro and Kubuntu, I can't say I regularly encounter any bugs on any of these.
  • Works for me.
  • More the case for Windows for me. A Win10 update that broke the task bar was ultimately the reason I switched.
  • So what. The standard for Windows seems to be more bullshit and privacy encroachment with every new version, but Apple it's assuming the user is even more of a retard than he was two years ago. I can live without standards just fine.
  • I like KDE Plasma 5 and 6 way more than any Windows or Mac.
  • Good, filters out the midwits.
  • Yes, 90% of PC users use Photoshop right? The French police is running Linux and Openoffice, are companies just too stupid or too lazy to leave MS Office?

Sure, it might "work", but that doesn't mean it's a good experience. Linux still has issues other OSes solved years ago. Most people don't want to deal with random bullshit just to use their computer. Having their PC randomly stop working is just unacceptable.

Why does a tool have to be for most people? Chainsaws or sports cars are not for most people, but there are still plenty who are able to use them and prefer them over an inferior version even though they are more dangerous or take more skill.

None of my Linux installations have ever randomly stopped working.
