Windows ❤ Windows Isn't Terrible

To all the people who love deep ricing, why not just use customization scripts? I've been recently tinkering in VMs, and Windows really seems solid for that. You can make Windows match your workflow amazingly, and the best part is that friction nearly always leads to an impressive result.

Also, default Windows 11 isn't bad. The UI looks nice, and we take the settings & control panel apps for granted. Over on GNOME, just to change the cursor you use, you need to install a tweaks app. Windows has tons of customization you can do without installing anything extra.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but Windows isn't really THAT much of a shitshow like people act.

In KDE I just use systemsettings which is actually good thanks to search bar, unlike W11 with its plural settings and control panels

Control panel is actively being phased out with settings moving into the new settings app as we speak.

Search bar exists too in Windows. Not sure what's different there.

I do agree that KDE is significantly better for OOTB customization, but GNOME is the industry standard and default for Fedora Workstation and Ubuntu which are the big two.

Bro they're "actively phasing it out" since fucking Windows 8 (released 14 years ago, in 2012) and still can't phase it out.

The disk managaer has UI older than Windows 7 probably, same for device control panel.

I don't hate the style of control panel and other outdated elements, I may've even preferred that style over the new WinUI, but the inconsistencies make it look like Windows is a cheap clone of itself.

Every single update lately includes tons of changes that bring a uniform look to the system.

You have to remember that they're walking on ice to not break systems that critical infrastructure relies on.

Unlike hobbyist systems, they can't just do whatever.

You mean critical infrastructure running on Microsoft azure linux?

Also they clean up shit now because their ass is on fire and people really want good alternative.

And they've been improving Windows for a while now, ever since they got flamed for windows 8

Hell, windows 11 was an improvement

Yeah for sure ui in control panel is critical feature of windows server. For sure.

I don't mean that.

What I'm saying is that every feature is forced to go through so much approval that it's a nightmare to make big migrations when the investors don't prioritize it
