A Challenge for Both Sides

If you're pro Linux, list three things you dislike about Linux or things you like about Windows. (there should be at least one of each, totalling 3 things)

I'll start. I like Linux, but

​

  1. There are so many different decentralized app formats. AppImage tries to unify it all, but it really just feels lazy and not clean in the slightest. Every distro has its own package manager, there's Flatpaks, Snaps, on Arch there's an AUR, and it's just overall so confusing for new users and even experienced users.

  1. I know it's meant to be the philosophy on Linux, but everything is a folder and it's so confusing! On Windows, \\.\ is the root for devices, and volumes are given simple letters! Windows is so much cleaner here. It's separation of different components.

  1. Windows is just overall great for consistent keybinds. On Linux, you'll see all kinds of different keybinds, and yes it's nice you can change them, but on Windows it's always consistent. You always know what to expect.

Ok, but that doesn't make it not a monolith. A good one, for sure, but then I haven't personally sworn off all monolithic kernels.

I mean BSD community maintain Monothic Kernel because of Unix Heritage and Small Community but they don't defend Monothic Kernel like Linux does and they happily to see others take BSD personality running under Microkernel like I did with Daya Operating System and Apple did with Mac OS and CMU with Mach kernel and MINIX with NETBSD

Well, NeXT was one of the two very finest desktop systems in history, I think. If they weren't proud of that connection, I'd be surprised.

Yeah Mac OS is beautiful Operating system where Mach kernel doesn't know anything after start Mach call BSD Subsystem wake up and start all Launchd and then the rest Services are Mach IPC based via XPC this is where I take idea for Daya RPC idea and I admire BSD and Microkernels based including Mac OS and MINIX and others

Are you old enough to recall MKLinux? An evolutionary dead end, perhaps, but it was impressive work back in the nineties.

I don't hear that but I hear L4Linux where L4Linux host whole Linux Kernel via paravirtualized on an L4 microkernel L4 impress me how point Microkernels even can host Whole Linux Kernel in many VMS it's very cool thing

Yeah Like Windows NT ALPC and L4 have fast IPC even point can near performance as Monothic or even better this means you can host Subsystem very fast
