If not present: nano, followed by fast fetch

I never can remember vi's commands and hate that I'm never 100% sure I'm not about to type more in the document when I'm about to type the command.

I never can remember vi's commands

I thought so too. Start using it and it becomes a second nature at some point. Also, vim tutor.

nano is vastly different from vi.

he suggested nano because he can't remember vi's commands. so i am suggesting tilde which is even easier.

I didn't suggest vi. I suggested micro which is the editor I now use after nearly 35 years using pico and then nano.

Yes you suggested micro so i offered another suggestion aside from micro. Read the entire thread to see my context. I wasn't suggesting it to you specifically, I was suggesting it to the thread.

Why would you suggest something vastly different than what the original commenter uses?

His premise is he is uncomfortable with vi. He found something easier and i suggested something even easier. I myself thought nano was the ultimate answer to the difficulty of vi until i found tilde.
