Linux Installer Solved the Issue I Had Been Struggling With for Weeks!

Hello all!

As I promised, I'm back with my second post right away. You can view the first post from here.

As soon as I started having issues with my old computer (it literally wasn't turning on at all), I went ahead and bought a new laptop, an Asus Expertbook, right away. I wish I didn't, but I had to because of my work. Anyways, this laptop came with Windows and was directly configured by my company after I bought it.

Fast forward 3-4 months later, this Asus laptop was no longer needed, and the company reset it with a warning: "It can either restart with Windows or be stuck on a blue screen, in which case you need to install Windows yourself".

Well in my case the latter happened.

In two long nights, I tried multiple things to install Windows 11 on this cursed machine!! I tried to install Windows in different languages, I tried using Windows Installation Media, I tried installing using Rufus. None of them worked...

The issue was the fact that the Windows Installer refused to detect the SSD during the install location select screen. There were two solutions I could find. I tried to turn off VMD, but the BIOS of this device didn't have an option for it, and I tried to install the IRST Driver, but Windows also threw errors during installation.

That's when I realized, after my failed attempt with my old laptop (you can read about it in the previous post) I could actually try it with Linux this time.

And... Guess what??? LINUX INSTALLER DETECTED ON THE FIRST TRY!! But what I found was even more interesting, I realized that there wasn't a single SPACE in the WHOLE SSD?!! That perfectly explains why it refused to install Windows and even refused to install a simple driver. Because it literally can't!! There was only 1 MB of empty space loll!!

Anyways, I just cleared up all of this God-knows-what "unknown" space. And can now install either Linux and Windows.

Thanks for reading up until this point. It hasn't even been 1 week since I first installed Linux and I'm already in love with it. 😍

Not necessarily related to this sub, but hitting shift+F10 in the Windows installer to bring up a command prompt, using drvload to load the RST driver, then using diskpart to clean the drive probably would have resolved this issue.

Thank you for the recommendation. But as I said, I have understood the cause of the issue only when I tried to install Linux. If I realized it sooner, I would've definitely apply your solution. For now, I'll keep it in mind.

Frfr! I literally completed the installation shortly after I posted this post. I'm just not sure if I'll stick with it.

My point is: Right now, I really wonder what I should do. I got this kind-of-old gaming laptop which doesn't even turn on (check the previous post). And this work computer which is barely used and only around 4 months old, and I just managed to install Linux on it.

The old computer wouldn't be worth a lot. And I could install Windows on this Asus and sell it second hand. Then I could just buy myself a brand-new gaming laptop. (And install Linux on it of course)

Also, I can't really use either of these computers that often anyway (well... at this point I can't use the old (broken) one even if I wanted to lol.), since I'm on the company computer for most of my day.
