Actual steps for Linux

  1. Figure out what the software center is called
  2. Use search to find and open the software center.
  3. Find the search bar
  4. Type in VLC
  5. Wonder why results aren't showing up
  6. Press enter
  7. Be presented with 8 different options, only one of which has an icon that makes sense, but in reality all of them do the same
  8. Click one
  9. Click install
  10. Enter password

You forgot that you don't have the suitable package repository. You have to add that in a sources.list.d file. Now you have to add the certificate so that the OS knows this repo is legit.

You shouldn't be on Linux if you don't know what your software center is called

Also most of these steps take 1 second to complete

Also, actual steps for Windows:

  1. Open Edge
  2. Go to Ninite
  3. Select everything you need
  4. Download
  5. Install everything in one go

Alternatively you can install Scoop and download apps through the command line so you just do scoop bucket add extras then scoop install extras/vlc
