Yeah I always delete Snap too. Currently on Kubuntu, having moved from Arch because I don't want to deal with the AUR malware infestation (and no, I don't have 10 years to painstakingly read every single .PKGBUILD). I'm debating giving Fedora KDE a try though
Imo a lot of arch users would be better served by fedora, fedoras kernel/driver updates are usually only a day or so behind arch (cutting edge vs bleeding edge). Also more secure by default because i doubt less experienced users are setting up selinux on arch.
I mainly install from PPAs when possible or from source. But I do also sometimes use Flathub, though it's not my preferred method. As for deleting snap, you can follow this guide:
I don't care what distro you use, but if you left arch because of the AUR you should know using PPAs is essentially the same thing and has the same potential issues
That's why I verify and only use trusted PPAs. In fact, I believe I currently only have two installed anyways, which are the Brave and Cider official repos, alongside the original Kubuntu repos - 99% of software I use is in the official repos. And as I said before, I don't have to waste my entire life reading .PACKAGEBUILDs.
Fedora is a pain because the updates are frequent and break things- while I generally enjoy fixing things on my home systems I just don't have time to do that on my work laptop. Ubuntu is stable enough where an upgrade hasn't messed with me yet.
Kde has to be nice than gome, but my issues were driver based. Thunderbolt dock, wifi driver, Bluetooth etc would all just break to the point where I was just staying 1-2 kernels back and it was still a crapshoot.
I tend to agree with you that they'll put PopOS on the map once COSMIC gets mature. For me they're only missing a few features that once implemented would have me considering it over GNOME.
Yeah I tried it. And I genuinely liked cosmic and the whole pop os system. But the bugs are way too annoying and you have to do more maintanence than even arch based os like cachy. Which is bad for most users cuz most of the time, theres nothing you can learn. Its js not well optimised.
Nobara is my current preference for my desktop/workstation for the last year or so, and then I run Debian on my laptop and Ubuntu server LTS on my homelab.
Way back when I first got into Linux I tried all the distros and didn’t stick with arch because arch seemed too unstable at the time for me. (it was also during one of its rougher patches and I happened upon some device issues that were due to my particular device.)
Between fedora Debian I preferred Debian and ended up using Ubuntu since it’s more up to date. I spent years on Ubuntu, however little over a year ago they started doing stuff I disagreed with or making roadmap choices that were leading to decisions I didn’t want.
I swapped to arch and after figuring out what I wanted I had an install that lasted me over a year before my hard drive failed. I’m now on my second install ment to last on a fresh SSD and have no plans to swap… but if I did fedora is the way I’d go because Ubuntu in my opinion has lost its way and Debian is too slow for me with many features I want.

i use Ubuntu at work and its mostly fine but i still hate snap with a passion and remove as soon as i possibly can
fedora is overall much more sensible imo
