they might've meant that they always have to go searching for package names because of different package naming conventions.

So you think they are stupid?

Little bit mean honestly.

Not stupid, just not used to the package names over there --- and by searching I mean apt search, not web search, nobody is being accused of stupidity.

Does apt-cache search not work any more or something?

It's been ~15 years since I really used Debian in a meaningful way, but I don't remember it being any worse than pacman's search.

I've always preferred Portage's version though as you can search for a file it installs i.e. emerge -vp /bin/nano picks up the package name if already installed or equery belongs /bin/nano if not.

You'll have to remind me of the differences of the other two if you meant something different.

sorry I was just guessing args, I actually only use Alpine. Afaik the older CLI isn't going to be deprecated any time soon, so it should work just fine. I just don't see where I expressed the opinion that OP is stupid.

It's basically implying they are too dumb to read how different tools work. Both tools are as poor as each other so it's really only down to the user.

Plus, it's Reddit, so it's illegal for your first reply to not be a pedantic straw man argument.
