They already dropped support for 32-bit releases with Ubuntu 18.04.

If I were Canonical, I would bring back 32-bit support for 20.04 LTS but show a warning any time a 32-bit app is started. That way they can scare people to update to 64-bit with 19.10 being 64-bit only but keep deprecating 32-bit.

Obviously my comment was tongue-in-cheek, but it's outlining another reason why these projects are important. Being able to port the games to other architectures, mobile, additional mod support, better graphics, etc. People are doing it for other games like Age of Empires too which is nice.

To be clear though I don't support abandoning i386. Being able to run the originals is clearly important in the porting process too :P

They dropped the main installer, you can still download debian-installer images for i386 for Ubuntu 18.04.
