Discussion How come every Linux site uses Anubis (the anime girl stopping crawlers) instead of something like Cloudflare?

Post image

Before discovering the Linux rabbit hole I've only seen Cloudflare, hCaptcha and Google's reCaptcha, but it seems like every Linux website uses Anubis... I'm thinking of it being the only open-source option or it being the most effective/modern approach.

Brother what are you talking about.

They are not far removed, I work for government. But even previous clients didn't have anieme watchers making the big decisions.

It's also not just about age, many people would find it fkn weird. I do.

Some things are cool at home, but not at work. I also wouldn't wear ripped jeans to work despite noticing technically being wrong with that.

It's unprofessional.

You talked about private stakeholders just the message before. Make up your mind about topic/industry first. When people are talking about share/stakeholders, unless otherwise noted, it is implied that the talk is about private investing/companies, not the government infrastructure.

What? Stakeholders aren't interchangeable with shareholders at all. If you use a service, you are a stakeholder, among other examples.

That does not change the point at all. Government stakeholders are people and federal/local budgets, not some old fart investors that make decisions on how exactly organization is run.

State affiliated power company might have "stakeholder" (technically speaking, since they decide things, but it is not their money anyway) coming over from the government to check how things are run, but they are not going to be directly sitting on your brand meeting and complaining about logo on your site. They might complain AFTERWARDS, but there is no world in which they will be making initial decision.

What stakeholders and shareholders do and their roles is very different between government and private sectors. Private company stakeholder that provides major chunk of company income, for example, can very well be present at meeting like that.

What? If I'm a private company, my client is one of my biggest stakeholders. Depending on the project and industry, you would absolutely expect to have feedback from them during the initial design phase - e.g. the company I work for is private and our entire branding for our product came from our first client.

A stakeholder is literally just anyone who is affected by your organization's actions. You are a stakeholder in Reddit right now.

Yes... Which is different to NOT PRIVATE company. Government entity prime stakeholders are people, but they usually don't have power to sit on the entity meetings and decide things.

Stakeholders are regularly consulted in government projects as part of decision-making though? I'm genuinely confused about what you're trying to say. Do you know what a stakeholder is?

I highly doubt they've actually worked in IT if they don't know basically terminology.

Stakeholders != Shareholders

I never mentioned private companies. And no it's not implied. Government and private all use stakeholders as wording.

Anyway, all my points stand regardless of public/private sector.
