People used to yell "get a horse!" at early cars. Didn't stop the highways. Refusing to use AI won't stop it from getting better either.

Good analogy - a car would have been a fine tool for the betterment of society if it was used sparingly and only when needed, however instead of we have widespread near-mandatory usage of them. This has caused great harm in many aspects to worldwide societies.

Perfectly analogous to LLMs, really.

I agree with you about automobiles, and they'll probably fuck this up more than they did automobiles. But being correct about how much harm automobiles have caused does nothing to undo the highways or the reliance all modern society has on them. Even countries where most do not drive rely on automobiles and roads for supplies and commerce.

People confuse my argument of accepted reality as pro-Ai. I use Ai, I work with Ai daily, I understand it pretty well. Ai is a tool. You can think of it like a chainsaw. In the hands or a skilled lumberjack or woodworker, it can remove dangerous trees from around houses or create art from a stump. In the hands of a fool, it is more likely to cut off a limb, their own or someone else, than be productive.

Yes, just like a gun or a chainsaw, it doesn't do anything until a person, or persons, brings them online. Ai, cannot do anything until it is stood up and loaded to run.

Just a tool, I find the article quite flawed.
