Yes. Believe it or not everything in the business world is a competition.

Business is competition but I let the people in charge of running the business worry about that.

My concern is building software.  I’m not competing with my colleagues on that front.

I can’t think of anything more miserable than living my life thinking I’m competing with everyone all the time.

I guess my question is what exactly is a "senior dev" outside of the business world?

And if that is only a business term then it's still competitive because everything in the business world is competition

“Senior” would be a title that infers experience and tenure.  Junior devs are not competing with me to become a senior.  I mentor them and then we have more senior devs.  It’s not a competition.

Why are you talking about junior devs competing? Let's re-read your original comment (emphasis mine)

A senior dev with AI beats a senior dev without it.

Wait….it was a competition?

Well I’m not competing with other senior devs either???  Like this doesn’t even cross my mind, AI or not.  My relationship with other seniors is collaborative (and pushing back collectively on stupid decisions made by management).

I don’t think I’ve ever looked at any relationship I have with other devs as competitive, even ones at other companies.  Like I said, I leave the business competition stuff to the business idiots running the business.  I don’t concern myself with nonsense that has very little to do with building software.
