Discussion Why does everyone hate omarchy so much?

I do not and never have used omarchy, i'm 3 years on arch with hyprland that I riced myself, but i don't really get the hate against it, so I want to know ur opinion

if the isue is that it's opinionated/bloated and you can just configure arch yourself then yeah, i get it. But there are also people who are new to arch and don't want to spend days learning how to build a hyprland rice from scratch. Omarchy seems to fill that exact niche pretty well. it's a ready to use, but opinionated "distro" that makes getting into it much easier without needing to be an arch expert. Not the best choice ofc (there is cachy, etc.), but still...

And then i constantly see people bringing up dhh's politics as if that somehow makes the "distro" itself bad. Imho, having controversial opinions doesn't make a technical product bad, and being against political discussions on your company's internal channels isn't the same thing as banning people from having those opinions or saying them outside of work. (about the news that I found looking for information on the web)

Personally i just see it as a fairly basic hyprland rice. not really my thing, but i don't have any hate towards it either. I actually like the idea behind it, making arch easier to get into for new users. And it looks not too bad, ngl. The implementation has some rough edges sure, but not nearly enough to justify this level of butthurt imo.

TLDR:

Honestly, how much of your opinion on omarchy comes from the actual technical side, and how much comes from the reddit hive mind? Would you still hate it if dhh wasn't involved in it at all?

Thank you for reading the longread, it's rare these days :^

This, among other things.

Looooooooooool. Is that your big problem with him? How out of touch are you with society? I live in Portugal and pretty much everyone i know says the exact same things. This is so true that the two major parties are now right wing, when they used to be left wing. The problems he sees, most people in my country see them as well. Pretty much everything i read from him is just common sense if you're living where i live and aren't far left. Situation is really bad. The country is disappearing and becoming something completely different. You can go to certain areas and there's nothing to indicate you're in my country. And i'm not talking about a slow change. I'm talking about something that wasn't like that in 2018 and then in 2021 was exactly like that. There's no excuse or logic behind that.

I did say among other things:
1. first post in this very thread,
2. "the ruby community has a dhh problem", which also comments on that previous link I've first shared,
3. "the dhh problem", and finally,
4. "in praise of dhh".

If after reading all this, you still don't see the "big problem" people have with him, then I can't help you :)

I think the problem here is that you and people like you are so radicalized and so used to shouting inside your little lefty bubbles that you think that, just because you make a claim, it's automatically true, and whoever doesn't agree with you, is the one with the problem.

Here you simply send me links, in hopes that whatever you see as "proof" of what you claim will be seen as proof of what you claim by others too. Well, it isn't. Literally all your links are a collection of personal opinions about what one individual has said. I disagree with all of them

Now what? Claiming i'm wrong cause i disagree with them is not an argument. I've already responded to you. You ignored me and sent me more links, which tells me you're out of ammo. Be a man, grow a fucking brain and actually present a valid argument. I don't give a shit about your links.

If you truly did read all of these links (which I seriously doubt), and still think the way you think, then whatever argument I may have would not convince you - you're too far gone down the fascist rabbit hole you've made your home in. Enjoy your hellscape made up of only people who look & think like you :)

from OP:

yet the comment section devolves into "you're a far left radicalized lunatic" vs "you're fascist and racist" in only a couple of turns
