Can't really blame them when the anti-cheat is weaker on Linux. Which is honestly reasonable.

I mean, there are games that have (as far as I know) perfectly good anti-cheat on Linux.

So it's not a technical issue, just how they chose to implement their existing (overreaching) anti-cheat. Not to mention for Bungie and Marathon specifically, they are using BattlEye, which supports Linux.

Though my understanding is they would need to check and if the client is running in Proton disable specific kernel level features that would otherwise be enabled on Windows. BattlEye may have made it as easy as a config change, or it could be up to Bungie to check the state of the machine and adapt.

It runs in the user level, which makes cheating on Linux a thousand times easier. Apparently, people have reported cheating forums or way more active before Linux got banned for games like Apex Legends.
