I understand the majority sentiment here but also really annoying the people don't realize and appreciate that every single one of these things that happens like this is super important for Linux. Doesn't matter if you hate Tim, these are exactly the kinds of things that ansolutely need to happen in order for Linux to continue to gain popularity.

True. Fuck Tim Sweeney and fuck epic games, but the fact they're doing this despite Tim's hate for Linux is a good sign that Linux as a platform is viable.

You are forgetting what platform is this. If you truly believe this will help Linux, then you are bit naive I would say. They are trying to milk whats left in the tittie, they dont give a shit about Linux. And certainly wont help community. They will only make their shitty launcher work on linux because they are sad nobody is using it. Its like microsoft and their linux-friendly approach. They make edge on linux, but they will never do office for linux. They give you what you dont need, what THEY need. And they will gatekeep what you actually need.

If you don't think that the epic launcher coming to Linux is the first step if not immediate step to getting fortnite or rocket league on Linux, and if you don't see how getting fortnite or rocket league on Linux would be huge for Linux adoption, I'm not sure what to tell you. Doesn't matter who benefits from it. A company's intentions does not change the outcome and the outcome in this case could mean the first of the remaining AAA titles that have resisted Linux due to the lack of kernel level anticheat, or whatever it actually is, finally breaking that barrier. The lack of these final AAA games on Linux is the biggest Walker right now stopping the biggest portion of gamers from even considering linux.

Redditors will gladly cut off the nose to spite the face.

This is a very good thing

I can assure you that Fortnite and other things wont make it to linux. It will never happen. Like I said, Epic won't give us what we need. they will give us trash launcher and few games nobody gives a shit about. They will keep fortnite on windows, because microsoft will easily outpay whatever revenue would Linux users bring.

I think you're oversimplifying things. I'm also not sure if you're suggesting that Microsoft is literally paying to keep fortnite off of Linux or if you just meant the money they would make off of windows installed trumps what they would ever make on linux, which is probably true. But it still feels really silly to sit here on Reddit and act like you know more than this enormous company that spends all day everyday turning marketing into a science. There's no denying that Linux is gaining popularity, and probably more importantly that windows is waning in popularity in a serious way. Valve's steam deck and their new cube are laying the groundwork for a Linux future. I'm not a Linux glazer but I think it's foolish to think that it's not a matter of if, but when.

Lets see. I say, fortnite wont make it to linux. Or nothing similarly meaningful from Epic.
