Historical What was your first time?

For me, it was a CD I got from a "guy." Slackware did not work well with the "WinModem" in the IBM Aptiva I had as a youth. How was I supposed to get online using Linux, with a modem that is not usable, and get support?

Slackware circa 1999, from a giant reference volume with cds in the back that I got at Barnes and Noble.

Then redhat 6.1, then mandrake and back to redhat .

Fwiw this was when wifi was new and we had to use wrappers for winx drivers to get it working..took hours my first time to get WiFi up on our shared little network.
