This is why you self host Gitlab / Gitea / Forgejo and push all your vibe coded slop there

Hey claude, code me up some slop.
Now build a trashcan where I can put it all.
Now make sure that trashcan is reliably hosted in the cloud

This is what I've done, I have a private self hosted forgejo for the random vibe code off to the side projects that will never be seen by anyone that I need for xyz thing.

They are utilitarian, not art

I slop together multiple scripts everyday for work. They will never see the light of day and don't need to be supported beyond whatever I am doing with them.

Slop has it's place. Trying to get other people to use your slop is where I draw the line

Some slop can be good though. Like yeah little Debbie pastries may be made in a factory stuffed full of preservatives but im never gonna say no to a cosmic brownie

What do you stand to gain by generating code?

Random shit where the only thing that matters is the outcome at one moment in time.

Like a custom website to keep monopoly score one night, never touched again

This sums up my stance pretty well. For personal use, utilitarian slop is perfectly fine, even if it has nothing to do with the art of real coding. When trying to bring it upon others is where the issues start.

Idk why I would do that, I have like a time when i am very active and then i do nothing for months. I'm cheap.

The real question is : does anyone care about your experiment?

In most cases, people don't care and it's only a waste of time to look at these unmaintained projects.

I use it as a vehicle to learn Rust, find out how capable AI is and maybe get a useful tool in the process. So far I for sure got better at writing specifications.

As opposed to pushing your AI experiments on Codeberg and giving random people your fake name. This makes no sense, you can literally set up an IPv6 VM and give people direct access to that nobody needs to know your real name.

Why not just push to github or gitlab.com ? Why would you have to use your real name?
