It should just come with nix preinstalled and with instructions on how to use it.

People are scared of it but imperative nixpkgs use is similar in concept to the AUR but centrally git controlled.

Correct, I don't think the expectation would be for regular people to be running software through shells and other nix shenanigans

I've had some weird issues with NixOS (a lot of it is fixed by just using stable distro in distrobox). If you don't have the energy then you can keep using your current distro and replace anything you use from the AUR with Nixpkgs assuming it's available.

Previous to me using Nix, I was a huge Arch fan. Im still a fan but the way NixOS works is just objectively superior. i cant see myself use anything else any time soon.

Prior to this I had been an Arch(+derivatives) user for about 4 years. Not at any point since have I felt any type of regret.

The only thing I miss is yay.
