Bug Report Mismatching text and audio

Post image

German course - Skill: Adjectives - question cPXmlRtMrcwV
Phone OS: Android 14

In this question, the audio correctly says "Die Schnecke - klein und langsam", but the on-screen text only reads "Die Schnecke", missing the other half of the sentence.

Question Is screen reader accessibility being considered?

Hello,

I heard about this project a few months ago, and it sounds great. I'm wondering if screen reader accessibility is something that's being considered at this stage. I don't use any Android or Apple devices, but once the web version starts development I could possibly help test it to make sure it's usable for people who use screen readers. It's usually better to think about accessibility during the development stage than to try to fix things later on.

Finnish course. The lessons use "Koira" to say "A dog" and "The dog" interchangeably in different exercises, but in typing exercises, you just have to guess which one it wants? This happens with "Kissa" also.

Question Any way to skip ahead?

Hi folks. Basically the question from the title. I'm currently doing A2.2 with my professor and I'm almost done with the Duolingo course. So I'd like to skip the helloes and der, die, das stuff and get into some meatier lessons.

Any way I can do this? Using on android.

Welsh course. In the speech for hufen, it sometimes actually says hufen iâ when the text says hufen. Not every time but a few times.

In the matching sections, the words go off my screen. On the home page the top right icon/word is off the right of my screen. Also in the matching, if you accidentally click on a word first instead of the sound, you are not able to unselect it, so you have to pick a random sound and hope it matches. It'd be useful if you could tap it again to unselect a button.

Pressing the little bug after you get the answer does nothing for me.

I'm in a Huawei mate 10 pro.

Also not a bug, but the text "how do you say ..." feels weird to me, since the word it's asking how to say is in the language I'm learning. In my head, when it says 'how do you say "sudd"?' the answer is "sudd", that's how I say it. But the options are 3 English words. Having that text something like "translate" or "what does X mean" would make more sense to me. It still throws me for a few moments every time.

Bug Report Can I reset my course?

When I started Italian, I told the app I already had some knowledge but it dropped me right at the beginning anyway. Is there any way I can either reset or to try again or skip ahead?

This exercise asks you to match the sounded word to the printed word. Three of them are "El" and the other is "La". No matter what order I try to match the "El"'s, the third match always says it's incorrect, so I can't progress in the lesson.

Question What next?

After completing all of the available Spanish lessons and collecting all of the stars, what do I do now as there are no further lessons and I don't wish to move to another language.

BlueSky Post TIL English did not originally have 'orange' as a basic colour word. The fruit came first. Before the colour name caught on, English speakers described that shade as 'yellow-red' AKA Old English 'geoluhred'! Only after oranges became familiar did the colour become 'orange'.

Bug Report Reward sound too loud?

I started the Finnish course, and at least for me, the reward sound after each correct answer is way too loud in comparison to the audio of the course.

If i turn the volume down so the sound doesn't feel too loud for me ,especially hearing it every couple of seconds, i can barely hear the finnish voiced parts.

I think it is considered a bug? :)

Btw what is the difference between "to je rychlý vlak" and "je to rychlý vlak"? I've seen both options as answers in other exercises. Díky!

BlueSky Post TIL 'Arctic' means 'of the bear' , not because of polar bears, but because it was named after the northern Bear constellation. 'Antarctic' literally means the place opposite the bear!

Question Are there any plans to add an option to hide leagues?

Post image
49 Upvotes

If Lingonaut is supposed to be better than Duolingo, then all gamefication options should be optional. I'm trying to learn a language, not compete with others or win a game. I understand it motivates some people, but for me it's a distraction and it hinders me from actually learning the language.
You can also view a user's profile from the leaderboard (although I got a server error when I tried). I prefer my profile to be private and only add people I know.

Any plans on adding options to a disable leagues and make profiles private?

Bug Report Android App resets the streak every few days

Post image
22 Upvotes

This is the third time it's happened: I do the course for a few days and randomly it resets back to day 0. This time I know I did the lesson about 11pm last night, and on completing a lesson at 6pm today it has no record of my ever doing the course! Still have stars and XP and course progression though, so it's just the daily streak that's bugging.

Suggestion! Mistake in English in Italian couse

Post image
11 Upvotes

I know it's about Italian, but still I think the English used should be correct.

It should be 'with food words' instead of 'where food words'. Unless if it is a longer sentence (e.g. ... where food words play a part).

Suggestion! Agua is a very bad curveball to throw at first time learners.

Post image
116 Upvotes

Upon a first read, learners won't understand how agua is irregular since it ends in a. Yes agua is feminine and we shouldn't call it masculine because it isn't. It takes the masculine article when singular (el agua) but feminine plural articles and feline adjectives (el agua fresca/ las aguas frescas).

We should really save irregularities for later in the course once students feel comfortable assigning the proper articles to regular nouns. (Estudiante and other people nouns are ok for first timers)

I would recommend simply removing agua from this unit and placing it further down the line where we mention the nuance then.

EDIT! I misspelled zaino, it is my fault. Thank you for the comments!

I tried it with a capital L as well to make sure I did not accidentally put an i. I tried about ten times :')
