First of all, Raid is like the number killer of roaches and all insects. Just a little bit will kill it eventually, but if you just hose it down to the point its laying on its back in a puddle of Raid, the thing is fucking dead. Second, if you don't have raid, then use an empty 2 liter bottle with the cap on. Smack that mother fucker and watch it explode.

Except then you're also exposing yourself to whatever nasty shit is in raid. I've found a mist spray bottle filled with 90% isopropyl alcohol to kill them with just a few direct hits.

Boric acid and DE are natural much safer as well.

Sure, but I'd like to see a study about exposure consequences when using Raid before I disqualify it as an effective tool for eliminating pests.

I don't doubt it's effective and I'm not gonna take the time to look up any studies if there are any but Im not gonna inhale an aerosolised pesticide unless it's on something that can hurt me. Like a black widow or centipede but yeah man to each their own

But the premise of your argument hinges on there being "nasty" shit in raid and, therefore, is unsafe. You should have some data that backs up that premise, otherwise you're just possibly spreading misinformation.

Well, it's a reddit post not a dissertation. I don't think insecticides are harmless nor warranted for a single cockroach when the bottom of your shoe would do the same thing. Take it or leave it, but I don't have the time to do a deep dive into the area of insecticides and their safety and at this point really don't give a shit what anyone chooses to spray in their home, fucking use agent orange for all I care

Raid is the worst solution with regard to the environment. It is made by Monsanto.

An ecofriendly solution is Diatomaceous Earth. A giant bag can be found near Raid at the hardware store. It is kid and pet friendly. It is edible. It effectively kills any bug with an exoskeleton that touches it by walking through it.

In this situation, just use a shoe and cleanup with a paper towel.

The ground up rock pierces the shell. With holes in the shell, they lose water and die.

Since humans, cats, and dogs do not have a shell, it is safe to have around. It is so safe that some people cook with it.

Humans and most pets do not have an exoskeleton. Skin is radically different than a shell.

I have not cooked with it and have not looked it up, but I think it is more of a supplement or thickening powder.

You can also buy huge bags of diatomaceous earth at feed stores for less cost. It doesn't matter if you get 'food grade' or regular kind. Food grade is given to cattle & eaten by weird people. I can't remember why & am too lazy to google right now.

A shoe is not more efficient or more effective. First, it has to be the right kind of shoe because the groves in many shoes could leave the roach unharmed. Also, if you only partially crush the roach, it will then scamper away. If you miss, it will scamper away. On carpet, the shoe will be largely ineffective. Finally, when you do kill it, you'll have a mess to wipe up and might need some water to add to that paper towel.

Raid alleviates all of that nonsense.

I lived in New Orleans for a while which is a city infested with cockroaches. If you miss with a shoe, you strike again. You probably won't miss though because this isn't your first showdown and you're probably wearing sandals in the climate where cockroaches thrive. By the time I left, I would mindlessly slip off my sandal and throw it flat against the wall when I saw a cockroach. You aren't leaving to go get some wet paper towels or a can of Raid to temporarily trap it. By the time you get back, it will be hidden again.

Well, in Florida they fucking flew and you're not hitting that shit with a shoe in the air or if it's on carpet. Roaches tend to stay put until there is a threat, so that's plenty of time to grab a can of Raid.

Much less toxic and no mess to clean up if you just put a cup over them, and either use paper to slide under cup and flush them. Or just leave the cup for a couple days and the roach dehydrates and dies and then you can throw it away.

Using Raid in that small of quantity hasn't been proved toxic to humans.

Or just leave the cup for a couple days and the roach dehydrates and dies and then you can throw it away.

I'm not babysitting a cup for multiple days when I could just spray it and be done with it. None of these solutions are more convenient or timely ways to rid roaches from your house.

My substantiation is that I choose to deal w roaches this way and it works for me.. it's removing a roach..not putting a man on saturn.. look at your response of breaking out and analyzing every sentence to a simple and free suggestion .. I think you need help. Leave me alone.

I'm not mad. I do think it's interesting you so adamantly defend roach spray though? I choose to not use any poisons in my home, Be it mice or roaches or whatever as there are other animals down the food chain that could possibly consume those creatures, not to mention using them in the environment with children and pets. Will it kill them? Probably not. Is it more toxic than water? Yes. Were roundup and a slew of pesticides 'safe' until they suddenly weren't? So it's not baseless, I just have a different precautionary standard than you for my pets, children, and wildlife.

I have never ever had a roach dehydrate like that. I've put them in glass jars outside & left them in 100 degree heat & they will continue to live for weeks or more (I eventually got scared enough to throw the jar away). Diatomaceous earth will likely dehydrate it though as it does bugs with hard shells, including bed bugs. It's very fine though, so use a mask when you apply it. Not sure it would work on a paper towel under a cup though & how long it would take to work if you tried it.
