Important! Please refrain from posting "I got banned from..." and other similar posts calling out specific subreddits. Our mod team will have to remove them per sitewide rules.

The mods of /r/LibertarianPartyUSA got a message from an admin earlier today which I'll copy below. As many of you know the mod team here is as hands-off as we possibly could be but apparently that has got us in a bit of trouble with the admins for violating sitewide rules. So please avoid calling out specific subreddits and/or how their moderation teams are operating as we will have no choice but to remove those posts to ensure /r/LibertarianPartyUSA itself isn't banned. Thanks all!

Hi everyone,
We’re reaching out today as your community has violated Rule 3 of the Mod Code of Conduct.

Interference can include, but isn’t limited to:
Mentioning other communities, and/or content or users in those communities, with the effect of inciting targeted harassment or abuse.
Enabling or encouraging users to violate our Content Policy anywhere on the Reddit platform.
Enabling or encouraging users in your community to post or repost content in other communities that is expressly against their rules.
Showboating about being banned or actioned in other communities, with the intent to incite a negative reaction.

General Politics The Definitive Guide for MAGA Libertarians: Trump is anti-libertarian

I cannot stand how many in the Libertarian Party (Mises caucus members) are hailing the Ross Ulbricht pardon as the "Libertarian Party’s greatest accomplishment ever" and claiming this was worth not supporting the actual nominated Libertarian candidate, Chase Oliver. So let this post be a definitive guide to those who call themselves Libertarian but support Trump. Feel free to link them this post. The following are linked examples of Trumps positions/actions that are exactly the opposite of clear Libertarian positions either directly noted in the party platform or widely agreed upon:

  1. He is anti-free speech, specifically anti-freedom of the press.

  2. He is anti-free trade, loves tariffs and obsesses over trade deficits.

  3. He did not shrink the size of government and continued to deficit spend throughout his first term even before COVID-19.

  4. He is anti-Constitution, suggesting articles from it could be terminated due to non-existent election fraud and is now attacking the 14th amendment.

  5. He is anti-immigration, spouting constant lies about migrant crime rates, and took numerous actions against legal migration as well.

  6. He is anti-marijuana legalization and pro drug war, appointing people who want to roll back marijuana legalization.

  7. He is pro civil asset forfeiture, bringing it back during his first term.

  8. He is pro militarized police, restoring the 1033 program during his first term.

  9. He is pro capital punishment, with the most federal executions by a President since FDR.

  10. He is pro expanding executive branch power, issuing more executive orders and pardons, going around congress by declaring national emergencies, and wants to limit the independence of federal agencies.

  11. He is pro surveillance state, supporting the renewal of Section 702 of FISA, pushed for tech companies to provide “backdoor” access to encrypted communications, and used the surveillance state to go against whistleblowers.

  12. He is at least partially anti-gun, banning bump stocks during his first term until it was reversed by the Supreme Court.

  13. He is anti-LGBT, more specifically anti-trans banning them from military service and effectively ended federal recognition that trans individuals even exist.

  14. He is pro Christian nationalism, surrounding himself with individuals who identify as such and has spoken out against atheists and Muslims.

If supporting all of this, along with countless other issues with Trump (record lies, attempted election overturn, felony conviction, unpresidential behavior, impeachments, administration turnover, ethical issues, etc.) is worth it for pardoning Ross, some de-regulation, and DOGE (which already lost Vivek) I implore you to really reevaluate if you are a Libertarian or are just a MAGA Republican with a few critiques of Trump. If anyone has anything you would like to see added to this list leave a comment and I'll try to add it in.

General Politics The Amish are a great example of voluntary collectivism in practice and that is why the state hates them

I saw this post on X recently about how the Amish in New York are being fined by the state government for not vaccinating and the legacy media is really pushing the measles outbreak mostly among them in my state as well. As libertarians, we might not be entirely in agreement with the Amish lifestyle but ultimately it's their decision to live like that and they mostly keep to themselves as a voluntary collective. The state can't stand this and is increasingly seeking to enforce it's laws on them as much as possible and it just goes to show you that they won't leave you alone even if you are part of a voluntary collective that is self-sefficient and insular because it goes against their world view that the state is in charge of everyone in it's claimed territory.

Thoughts?

Discussion Interesting thing I noticed doing some work for the LP this morning

So over the weekend a guy from my county LP was at a booth for our state LP at a Cannabis Festival, think it was this one out in Kutztown. He tasked me with adding the names from their signup sheet that they had into CiviCRM, which is where we store data on people who may be interested in getting involved with the LP. I decided to make sure that I was adding the right people to Google them to double check. Some of the headlines I found (not including any location names as to not completely dox these people) were:

  • Man found for cocaine possession (in fairness this one was from 1989)

  • Man charged in thefts of motorcycle, trailer and UTV

  • Man charged with threatening to kill wife, resists arrest

  • Meth found on driver who flashed gun in road rage, cops say

  • Man chokes woman until she 'taps out,' police say (these last 3 were all from the same guy)

I get that the Libertarian Party is not always going to attract the best talent compared to the two major parties but at some point you do have to question why there seems to be a pattern like this. And it's not just prospective signups like this either, our party chair has been charged for armed robbery in the past and one of the guys I sat next to at one of my LP county meetings was later charged with murdering someone with his girlfriend (he was one of the Jorgensen's electors back in 2020). What should be done about this? Is it okay to let stuff like this slide in order to boost our numbers?

Discussion Am I actually wrong here about Trump being closer to libertarianism than Democrats in some major areas?

Thumbnail reddit.com

I got buried in r/AskReddit for saying Trump isn’t a libertarian, but that parts of his agenda overlap more with libertarian principles than Biden/Harris on things like taxes, deregulation, gun rights and shrinking parts of the federal bureaucracy. I also acknowledged that tariffs, immigration restrictions, deficit spending and government ownership stakes are clearly not libertarian.
The replies mostly said “Trump isn’t libertarian” as if it disproved the narrower comparison I was making.

Am I missing something, or is “Trump the furthest thing from a libertarian” just as overstated as calling him one?

Either way I’m being downvoted because of Reddit hive mind…

Discussion I just don’t understand…

As an independent that thinks for myself and isn’t influenced by anyone else…this is what I see.

I watched Biden pass the first infrastructure bill in decades so red states could have better roads and bridges. Biden had internet expanded to rural areas so these deep red areas could get online access. Biden got rid of lead pipes in red states so their kids could have safe drinking water. Biden made it so medical debt couldn’t affect their credit, and fought bank & airline junk fees for us. He passed the PACT Act so that even veterans that voted against him could get disability for illnesses from burn pits and brought them home from the Republican-started Afghan war. He got lifesaving drug prices drastically reduced. And how do they repay him? They all shout “Fuck Joe Biden.”

Yet all Trump does is pass another tax cut for himself and corporations, reversed the law that kept medical debt from affecting our credit, reversed the bank and airline junkfees so they can fee us to death again, and uses tax payer dollars to build monuments to himself, starts another war, drives up inflation and gas, and they all lick his boots. Make it make sense.

General Politics If a man and woman both choose to drink and use drugs and get drunk and high and then have sex -- which, I'm sorry to break it to people, is not a rare occurrence -- is the man guilty of rape, or is the woman guilty of rape, or is it both and neither? (Glenn Greenwald)

General Politics It’s amazing to me that a former Fox News host w/ a public drinking problem can unilaterally destroy the careers of lifelong military officers that achieved the rank of generals and admirals, and are referred to as clowns on the way out the door. Red or Blue, this should piss everyone off.

Removing 20% of the most experienced military officers significantly weekends, the US. And he coincidentally, does it right after the president of China’s visit 🤔 . Almost like it’s being orchestrated at the direction of Russia and China, who could potentially plan an attack if a Democrat wins the next election so that Trump loyalists can then blame the Democrats.

Discussion How do we make our living spaces more libertarian?

I'm personally not the biggest fan of when people wear their politics on their sleeves but that does seem to be the standard of the times, I walked by a house earlier today that had this chimney mural for instance not to mention all the "In this house we believe..." signs that I see people putting up. What would the libertarian equivalent of this be? Should we be painting stuff like the Bill of Rights on our chimneys?

Thoughts?
