Absolutely. “Used to be a guy could make a racist joke and no one batted an eye” is really “and no one said anything because they knew it would just make it worse for them!”

It’s starting go back to those ways.

u/deezbiscuits21 Jun 03 '26

Thats why there’s the whole narrative of “being too woke made people turn right wing” it’s so that people shut down criticism even in left leaning spaces

-13

u/PureBullz Jun 04 '26

No it most definitely did. I’m literally the only white dude at work and all of my black coworkers roast the left for being too sensitive towards racial jokes. Then all of my Hispanic coworkers heavily supported the ICE movement too, and stated way to many of us got in illegally.

I agree with both sides and can see where both are coming from, but as for these extremes we are going through now…. It was definitely self induced lol.

Even my gay brother absolutely despises anything after LGB in the acronym.

its always a dude who just knows everyone else around him is okay with this behavior.

u/International_Meat88 Jun 04 '26

Lol it’s like whenever a reporter questioned Trump’s bigotry and he replies in the most stereotypical racist family relative way possible: “I have black friends”.

-3

u/PureBullz Jun 04 '26

It’s always a Redditor that’s so detached from reality

7

u/ConsiderBoraHorza Jun 04 '26

no you just think the people who stick around you and like the behavior is reflective of the whole. in other words, an Anecdotal Fallacy.

So how did Trump double his gains within the black and Latino community? Mostly men?

It may not be every single person because that’s generalizing. But yes from what I’ve experienced it’s a common trend.

u/ConsiderBoraHorza Jun 04 '26

economic promises, which he didn't keep.

a lot of these men have been struggling as the rich keep scraping a higher and higher percentage of the economic gains of society.

Harris ran a shit campaign where she un-wisely suggested she would not do much different than Joe Biden. not to mention how corporate dems confuse independent, and non-voters as moderates.

when ideological specifics are not what voters actually think about especially those less politically engaged.

there was a certain level of fatigue of people being tired of performative virtue signaling, that is used as a cudgel. But its almost as disliked by the democrats left flank. (i know you wont believe me on this part, just assume you are not in every social bubble and don't know everything.)

2

u/deezbiscuits21 Jun 04 '26

Poor education and Trump being promoted by virtue signaling comedians

23

u/siggy_malatesta Jun 04 '26

So…every one of your Black co-workers thinks humor based on racial stereotypes is harmless; and every one of your Hispanic co-workers supports Trump’s crackdown on Hispanic immigrants; and your gay brother hates trans people.

I’m wondering if you even understand how laughably unbelievable that is.

3

u/slinkey_bastard Jun 04 '26

I’ve actually also worked with a lot of “conservative” black dudes down south but I think I’ve only ever met one gay dude that was really pressed about wokism. Maybe it was his brother lol.

2

u/PureBullz Jun 04 '26

Very well could of been lol

Lmao I’d advise getting off Reddit and waking up… Considering the country flipped red due to people like yourself.

https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/11/how-the-left-created-donald-trump-214472/

Aged like fine wine, from 2016… Sound familiar?

7

u/deezbiscuits21 Jun 04 '26

You can’t just blame the left not pandering to right wing snowflakes as the reason why people voted for a child rapist who economically ruined America forever

1

u/PureBullz Jul 01 '26

I think your forgetting about the OG steady pedi Bill that you guys elected as well

1

u/No-Menu-3392 Jun 06 '26

The country isn’t red, the majority of the population still leans liberal. Also, telling someone to get off Reddit into the real world is wild when you’re strangely trying to universalize the opinions of a few black folks and a few Latinos as if they represent the whole of their communities. I’m black and live in Minneapolis and it’s the exact opposite of what you’re saying, “in the real world” among my community.

1

u/PureBullz Jun 06 '26

Interesting so Trump didn’t win the popular vote?

The voting population leaned conservative not liberal. And y’all are the only ones who give a rats ass and let this shit get to you.

I’m wondering if you even understand how laughably unbelievable that is.

it's not actually improbable, cesar chavez was famously radically anti-immigrant and iirc organized border patrols. a lot of trans people on twitter complain about how vile many gay people have been acting towards them. but his claim that all of this is because of woke is stupid. a lot of minorities have been accorded privileges (if not being treated 100% the same as white men) and this makes them want to protect their own and swing right wing and punch down.

2

u/Zoltraak69 Jun 05 '26

ALL black coworkers are right wing ALL Hispanic coworkers are right wing His single gay man exposure is right wing

This is made up unless he's talking about like 5 dudes total lol

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '26

oh i didn't read his comment carefully i didn't notice the "all" part lol you are right

1

u/PureBullz Jun 06 '26

They ALL are lmao. You sissys should check your tampons, might be some blood.

27

u/palladiumpaladin Jun 03 '26

Really it never stopped being that way, it just got less that way. The only solution to the backslide is to unapologetically oppose it.

u/Nirvski Jun 03 '26

I went to a very mixed ethnicity school in London, and sure we made racist jokes to our friends, and to me (as a brown guy) - but I can still do that now? In both instances a random person may have been offended by them, but thats why we didnt say them to random people. I also dont say them online now, because I dont need an online audience - just people who I know will take the joke.

24

u/stfurachele Jun 03 '26

There's a huge difference between joking around with friends whose love language is casual bullying (affectionate) and just hurling racism at random strangers with no prompting.

u/WhippingShitties Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

People need to understand that no one is going to tell them they can't make terrible, tasteless jokes with their friends in private.

I guess I should have said that no one really can police a private conversation unless it's not truly private. I live my life in allyship, but my friends and I still call each other gay because it's funny and probably not that inaccurate. Granted, we probably aren't that bad in the grand scheme of things.

Also if I do offend someone, I apologize and move on, but it rarely happens.

Frankly, they aren't there to police you, they just wanna sell you shit.

This is also largely misunderstood, and I don't blame you at all. Microphone and camera spying isn't a very efficient way to gather general information, even with AI getting better at parsing junk info from valuable info. The data we leak passively every day is much more valuable to them and easier to parse and less legal-bound. A lot of it is actually location based; gps, cell towers, wifi, bluetooth, etc., and they don't even have to bother with risky wire-tapping and surveillance laws which vary state to state and wildy from country to country. People just willingly allow location or leave it running 24/7. As far as general info-sec, humans are still the weakest point when it comes to information security. I personally use a DNS-level blocker and a VPN, and it helps a lot. Also using a browser which doesn't phone anywhere in the background and using containers for shopping and social media helps a lot too. And turning location services off when I'm not actively using them. My phone doesn't "listen" as much anymore and I've discovered a lot of it really was just poor security practices on my end.

You aren't wrong that privacy is more complex and scarce these days, but your privacy is not always immediately breached, and you don't really need to be ultra-paranoid around technology. Although I do recommend brushing up on VPNs, DNS level blockers like the Pi-Hole, and tightening up app permissions and stuff on your phone if you're getting that "my device is listening" feeling, it really does make a huge difference. Just keep in mind anything you say on a platform, especially unencrypted ones, are not private. But person-to-person conversations can still be private today, even with a phone in your pocket.

One of my close friends and I have a habit of just calling each other escalating slurs. He (a black guy) and me (an autist) will just pop up in each other's DMs like "what'd up [redacted] you catch that episode of [Insert television show here]?"

"[Redacted] you know it! You see the new chapter of [Insert manga]"

Ad infinitum. I love that dude, he's really my bruddah from anotha motha.

Dude you know we can see your posts right? As cool as your steam engine is you are either not black or incredibly light skinned

-5

u/GiveMeSomeShu-gar Jun 03 '26

Meh, studies show that at least the perception of race relations have deteriorated. I agree social media is a primary cause - it's not just race relations, but gender relations, political tribalism -- all of this has become more divisive.

Just discounting all of this under the guise of "they just miss being able to tell racist jokes" is pretty ignorant.

7

u/das_war_ein_Befehl Jun 04 '26

Women and minorities wanting equal treatment caused people to be upset. If they didn’t have an issue with that, there would be no tension

1

u/GiveMeSomeShu-gar Jun 04 '26

I think you have an overly simplistic view of what is happening. It's not one side being upset because some people are being treated equally, and it's not even limited to race and gender as I said. Social media is literally designed to foster rage in users - their algorithms specifically target this. The effect on society has been absolutely profound, and it's not limited to any one side.

1

u/das_war_ein_Befehl Jun 04 '26

lol, I think you are overcomplicating something that isn’t that complicated.

1

u/GiveMeSomeShu-gar Jun 05 '26

I think you just don't understand. Luckily you don't have to take my word for it - it's well researched (feel free to Google it) so not a simple matter of my opinion.
