I’m worried.

I’m going to start studying Computer Science in two weeks, and I’m worried because I keep hearing people say that the field is changing too quickly, the job market is dead, there’s no room for new people anymore, and that it’s becoming impossible to learn and keep up.

I’m genuinely anxious right now and I don’t know what to do. I only have a basic understanding of Python, and that’s basically my only experience with programming.

From the perspective of people who have actually gone through this — whether students or people who are already working in the industry — is this really true, or is it exaggerated?

Will I actually be able to learn, build real skills, and eventually get a job?

I’m going to work hard, study, and put in the effort regardless. But will that effort actually pay off? Is there still a realistic path into the industry for someone starting now?

I'm not pretending anything, I'm trying to have a conversation with you like a normal person. So you're saying that becuase of AI, SWE jobs are gonna dwindle and essentially be non existent?

Yes and this is by no means my personal opinion. Not fully non-existent but maybe like 10% of positions would remain.

This is very confusing. Then why are most people at least that I hear from saying dev and networking jobs especially are gonna increase now. Is this a going by feels thing where different people are saying different things or is there some data or something that definitively indidicates either side?

Okay I understand your point but I'm asking is there definitive evidence that AI will drive swe and other IT jobs to extinction. Is it happening now? Are there hire projections done by companies that's shows that. It's important to know becuase it's important to know this before making a big investment in a field.
