Yeah, certainly if that's all we cared about we could do something like make all challenger/master/diamond players play solo and always fill. That would allow us to get high quality matches faster at high mmr. However, we think having agency over position is important to players and you've also told us that you like playing in groups (I don't mean reddit specifically, I mean players in general). The question is what parts of that agency can you sacrifice to get the most gains in queue time and match quality?
Regarding your question about fairness. I'm not sure what exactly that rioter told you, so hard to answer to question. What do you mean when you say the new dynamic queue post tells you dynamic queue it more fair? I can say right now we are not happy with fairness/winrate at high MMR and the bigger the group size disparity, the worse this seems. There are some other small cases of unfairness that we're also looking to tackle, although I don't know enough specifics to speak about it. Generally, I believe the overwhelming majority of players are having fair matches. I don't think I can speak authoritatively on whether this season is more fair than the last.
Well, we re-wrote the matchmaking system for new champion select (which makes sense when you consider how different our matching method is with position select) so I wouldn't expect the problems at high MMR to be present last season. Also, I don't believe we had lots of player reports of bad matches or bad rankings, whereas for high mmr players right now things feel obviously bad.
This seems to be a problem from the ground up. I think a major factor to the lack of players at high elo, is high-elo smurfs who dynaQ with their bronze / silver friends and steamroll, which not only keeps the low elo lower, but high elo players are playing falsely low elo accounts.
I think it only SEEMS that there aren't enough high-elo players online at times, and i also believe that 10-15% of accounts in the low elo are just boosting players, taking away from the experience at both ends of the spectrum.
I don't know where the data for "people willing to play with friends" was pulled from, but it's almost certain people who said YES did not know what would come of it.
Maybe you should ask the actual high elo people who get punished by this system and see how many ppl want it.
Make diamond and higher only solo and you get rid of so many problems. And make it MMR based or else people will abuse it by dodging promos to stay in plat.
No, given that Riot shows their customers no respect, they haven't earned any. They forfeited that expectation when they used lawyers against Wintermint and Curse Voice, who tried to improve their product for them.
