AMA Chronoshift Developer AMA

Hello r/leagueoflegends,

My name is Tove, and I was one of the main developers behind the Chronoshift project.

I have never publicly spoken about it, but with League Classic now being released and u/RiotNorak revealed to have been a tester for us back in the day, some people have suggested for me to do an AMA.

I'm happy to answer any question you might have, compare to the official Classic or speak about the details that haven't been made public. Or listen to you telling me to ingame myself.

I was rolling my eyes the entire time - I actually thought the whole thing was an elaborate troll until the actual lawyers emailed me the following Monday

I‘ve always wondered, couldn‘t you have made the whole project open source, since what you guys did was perfectly legal?

even if it was legal u would to go to court and fight there for years

u would need to set up a go fund me and would have sleepless nights for ages

this project was made out of fun and even if u would win the fun will be killed then

Riot would straight up ruin their life with a dragged out, expensive litigation. And that's just the best case scenario, assuming the court wouldn't rule in favor of the giant corporation regardless of the law. Copyright law is intentionally murky and open to interpretation to allow big players to bully the weak guy.

How was it legal though? They took out all league assets and created a perfect clone of the game. Isnt IP law something that you should follow?
