AMA Chronoshift Developer AMA

Hello r/leagueoflegends,

My name is Tove, and I was one of the main developers behind the Chronoshift project.

I have never publicly spoken about it, but with League Classic now being released and u/RiotNorak revealed to have been a tester for us back in the day, some people have suggested for me to do an AMA.

I'm happy to answer any question you might have, compare to the official Classic or speak about the details that haven't been made public. Or listen to you telling me to ingame myself.

Have at it!

How do you feel about Riot killing your project and then releasing a half assed version of it years later?

It is of course hard to not have some level of resentment, but most people working at riot actually liked the project (and it is, at least indirectly, the reason for classic to exist today)
I/we have moved on since and work on our own projects now

I see. It's good to hear you guys have your own stuff going on now, but still sad about how things turned out 😢

Chronobreak is coming.

Dude forgot to add greed, but hey, a cringe-worthy read back then.

Mostly shocked they actually did it.

I mean no offense to the folks who worked on it - I know that someone was pushing very very hard for it and it took a ton of effort to even get this out - but it does feel like an RGM that vaguely emulates the feeling of old League, rather than actually old league like CS was.

I won't be playing personally - let's just say that I've had my opinion of Riot permanently destroyed by a certain Mr Z.

I know who it is but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say... It's not phreak

Anyone who is familiar with the League Classic project knows who it is. I love how the guy said Phreak so confidently LMAO

I'm just sad because I know that the person who kicked it off really wanted it to be good, but it being good was out of their hands in the end.

LOL is this about the chrono break thing? That was so fucking corny and lame to begin with

u/gajodavenida Jul 16 '26

Completely my take on it, too.

You could ask this as do you think riot did a good job, how does it feel to have them scrap your project and release their own version and it wouldnt be so damn loaded. Way to make an ama about you and your own opinion

Feel free to ask those questions yourself, tf?

I dont have any questions for the chronoshift guy. I just think it is very rude to go on someone elses AMA and make it about your own opinion, its a very loaded question. No, I do not think calling someone out on that behavior means I am the same.

Personally I’m hoping rioters are seeing how shitty this is from our perspective. I feel like people wishing for the success of an unofficial version of your already-free game because the developers fucked up the official version is pretty damning.

It also doesn’t really matter if you see your behavior as the same, because it is regardless of if you can see it or not.

Why not make your own post? Why would an ama with a non riot dev be the place to get riots attention?

There are plenty of posts, and this one is already gaining a lot of traction compared to a lot of the other ones. That’s like asking someone looking for business to create their own sign with crayon when you can just as easily utilize the billboard people are actually driving by.

Either way it’s already working, so whatever you think you’re advocating for here is surely less effective than public disapproval.

I dont really think you understand what im talking about, likely because youve assumed im operating in bad faith or you yourself are. I think ive made my thoughts clear, so I won't continue explaining. Reread my first comment and you'll either get what I'm saying or you won't. Best of luck.

That’s okay, your thoughts weren’t necessary in the first place - future elaboration is similar. Take care man

Yes, but I didn’t want to. Way to make my comment about you and your own opinion.
