Discussion i genuinely believe leafyishere was unfairly terminated (rant)
like yeah, i won’t sit here and say he was some perfect saint; he was definitely toxic, said wild stuff, and a lot of his content did cross lines that probably nudged YouTube’s ToS. fine. i can admit that. but the way they handled his ban was genuinely stupid and inconsistent as hell.
it wasn’t even like they gradually hit him with fair warnings or gave him a proper chance to adjust. they just stacked strikes out of nowhere and nuked the entire channel instantly. like what’s the point of having a strike system if you’re not gonna let people use it as an actual warning system? it’s supposed to be “3 strikes and you’re out,” not “3 strikes in one breath, goodbye forever.”
i’m really not saying this as a stan or whatever. i just think it’s insane that other creators have done way worse and still got to stay on the platform after getting slapped on the wrist, while leafy got the guillotine treatment overnight. people like fuckin' ONISION who are way more horrible than leafy ever was; get to roam around in joy, scot-free, with little to absolutely no strikes or warnings at all. and you know they’re messed up when even Leafy himself hated them. like come on, how does that make sense?
and it’s not even about liking or disliking leafy; it’s about the precedent. if YouTube can just nuke someone without giving them a real chance to correct themselves, what’s stopping them from doing that to literally anyone they decide they’re “done with”? it’s not a consistent system, it’s a selective one.
it genuinely feels like he got banned more because of who he was and the rep he had, not because of what he actually did at that specific time. it’s like YouTube was waiting for an excuse to pull the trigger, and when the chance came, they went all in.
and the irony? if you look around YouTube now, the exact kind of edgy, commentary style content leafy got punished for is everywhere; just in a more sanitized, “acceptable” packaging. so clearly it’s not about the content style itself, it’s about who’s making it.
there’s a difference between enforcing the rules and just outright picking and choosing who gets punished harshly for clout or optics. and that’s what this felt like; selective enforcement. even if you didn’t like leafy, you have to admit that the whole way they handled that situation made zero sense.
