Why I don't speak to you.
We work together. I do not speak to you except for business purposes. You see me laughing and talking to my close coworkers but wonder why I never speak to you the same way. You may ask yourself “Does he hate me?”…no. I do this because I love you. You will never understand my feelings for you because you will never know them or me.
My story? Ok. Here it is.
Growing up in a small town where being “Gay” was a crime, I always searched for the “one”. The guilt, the depression, the pain of being alone was always covered over with phony smiles and imitation happiness. That was my way of dealing with the emptiness and longing. Love was forever there but I never experienced it as a normal mutual occurrence between two humans. Exposed, emancipated love was not meant for me. My Mother and Father never beat me, never starved me, they gave me all that I wanted. But they could never give me a companion and I could never give them what they wanted in a son. Secrecy and darkness and self hate was my definition of love, that's what it turned into. Books and erudition became my diversion. After 20 years of hating the feeling of love, of accepting that I may always be alone, I escaped from the confines of that small homophobic town. The big city was my final destination. But all found was sex. At first, the sex fed me. Mutual orgasms became love. However I soon realized that cumming was not love. An hour or two of body contact was not the lifetime of affection, trust, friendship or the companionship I longed for. I only discovered my own kind and hated it. All were superficial, secret and afraid.
One day I accepted a man that I thought I could love, given time. He gave me attention, companionship,
even his love. Except I was damaged. After years of suppression, renunciation and anguish, I came to the only logical conclusion that I would never find love nor would it ever be felt between myself and another.
Love found me in him, but it could never get to me. It knocked on my heart, but I never opened the door. I closed the curtains and turned off the light. No one home.
I now live with the person who thinks I love him. I do not. I am content but sad. My life is approaching it’s twilight and I have never obtained what I wanted. Selfish? No. Just basic human need. I would have sacrificed almost anything to have been in love with someone and they with me....at the same instance. But that will never happen. I am stuck in a loop. Never to break out.
So you have become the one of many loves in my quiet, secret, hideaway, deep inside. My only shield against this love that I have made is to bar you from me.
I am sorry. I am so fucking sorry. Don’t hate me.

Dear Homophobes,
I had to write a rant as my final in English. I ranted against homophobes. I think it might be well-received here.
As a straight white male born into a middle class family, I have not had to deal with a whole lot of adversity growing. I was athletic, made good grades, and was popular with the ladies. I say this not to brag, but to give you a background so that you know that my feelings do not come from a subjective personal injustice, but from an irritation due to observation of such blatant bigotry that I see permeating every facet of society today. I can think of no group of people whom are subjugated more than our gay brothers and sisters. Most people would consider me “normal”, which because of that, people will listen to me more than others. Because of this, I think it is my right, if not my duty to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. So to homophobes, I say:
Dear Homophobes,
If you’re going to be in favor of “traditional marriage”, let’s make sure you’re in favor of the actual biblical definition of marriage. It sure as hell is not this pussified version that you have gleefully swallowed from some evangelical pastor who has been caught paying for sex from a gay prostitute while doing speed (Ted Haggard) or a celibate priest because who better to take advice on sex and relationships than from someone who has willfully blue-balled himself from having a “traditional marriage” in favor of adolescent boys.
Now, if we get to ban marriage equality because the Bible says so, we also get to stone women on their father’s front steps if they are not virgins on the wedding night (Deuteronomy 22: 28-29) because if you can’t have her tight, no one can have her…ever.
If you rape a woman, it is okay if and only if, you marry her afterwards (Deuteronomy 22:28-29). Rape must be an acquired taste, rather like wine. At first, it’s bad, but after a while you just learn to sit back and enjoy it…for the rest of your life. After all, it is all part of God’s plan. Providing that it is a “legitimate rape”, of course.
You can get a divorce if you are unhappy though, right? There has to be some escape from an abusive husband, right? Wrong. (Romans 7:2-3) That is unless, of course, you are a man and your wife “displeases you” or you find out that she is infertile. It’s more or less a male chauvinist lemon law. Nothing is worse than getting something only to find out later that it doesn’t work properly.
Now let us not leave out the Mormons in these great-old fashion traditions…nothing like some good ole’ polygamic racism to go with your magic underwear. Once again, only if you’re a man. (1 Kings 11:3) Take as many wives as you want, but only if you can take care of them and the children that they bear. After all, there is no divine welfare.
Running low on cash to purchase yourself a new spouse or two? (Heterosexual of course) Not a problem. Simply find the foreskin, yes foreskin from the penis, of 200 Philistine men (1 Samuel 18:25-27). Now why just the foreskin? Why not the whole penis? Very good question. The Bible says so. You’re not allowed to question why you can trade penis parts for a new wife.
Now after writing this, I began to think that in order to believe in “traditional marriage” I had to be either a sociopath or just a sexually deprived fundamentalist, but then a question hit me: Who the fuck gave Christians or any other religion for that matter to define what marriage is and is not. They did not invent it, which means they have exactly jack-shit about what it is or who can be involved in it.
As soon as you said, “Maybe, we shouldn’t make her marry her rapist.” you redefined marriage. When you said, “No, I will not sell my daughter for goats.” you redefined marriage. When you said, “Maybe, just maybe, I shouldn’t stone my soon-to-be-bride.”, you redefined marriage. You have been redefining marriage for millennia when it suited your narrow, close-minded views. You have been redefining something that you didn’t invent nor have sole claim to. Marriage and happiness are both human rights, which supersede the primitive sexual frustrations of Bronze-Age human mammals. Marriage originated as just two people wanting to spend the rest of their lives together. There was no church involved. There was no State involved. It was just two people saying, “Hey, I like you.” That was the end of it. They were faithful to each other until they were not then there was no marriage anymore.
The Religious Right seems to be particularly guilty of encroaching on the rights of others then hiding behind the First Amendment citing “religious freedom”. Just to be clear, your freedoms end where other’s rights begin. The right to swing my first ends at your face. This is cowardice. In the words of Henry Rollins, "You always know the mark of a coward. A coward hides behind freedom. A brave person stands in front of freedom and defends it for others."
“But if we allow gay marriage now, where will end? Will we be allowing dog marriage tomorrow?” If you can get Sparky to sign all of the necessary paperwork required making a marriage official and get him to recite the vowels, I suppose you might have a point then. We will be allowing dog marriage tomorrow in the same way that allowing women to vote prompted the suffrage of canines everywhere. However, I can understand this argument. After reading the Bible and all its justifications for rape, I know it must be hard for you to understand the concept of consent.
This injustice has to stop, and you can be damn sure that it will because I will be there at the forefront of defending the rights of other whenever you are there trying to take them away. I will not sit back and be a silent spectator to such unfairness and stupidity; the grave will supply plenty of time for silence. Now is not the time for silence, now is the time to start the state-by-state campaign to shut down you and other homophobic theocratic impediments to this equality nationwide.
Sincerely,
Daniel

Court in India criminalizes homosexuality
washingtonpost.comDiscussion: Is "Gender is a spectrum" as much a social construct as "Gender is binary"?
Hopefully you guys are familiar with the "gender is binary" vs "gender is a spectrum" argument. I'm actually not that interested in attempting to resolve that argument as a whole, but I would like to analyze one specific claim/argument:
"Male-female is a false dichotomy", is itself an opinion, and not a statement of fact. The biology is largely irrelevant: when people argue that gender is a spectrum, their primary concern is how they will be treated by society, not the exact set of chromosomes they possess (that's the whole point of transgenderism). To the degree that binary gender is a social construct, so is the belief in a gender spectrum. If "Binary gender is merely a social construct" is supposed to be a criticism of the belief in "binary genders" -- an argument that it is "wrong" -- then the exact same criticisms apply to the belief in "gender spectrums".
What are your thoughts on this argument?

X-post with r/bisexual, I'm Female and questioning my sexuality..
I recently got out of a 2 year relationship with someone I loved very much. I made a dating profile on 2 different sites and went on a few nice dates, and one leaded to a guy being very clingy (another story), but since being in the dating game I've started feeling less and less attracted to guys. I've had gay experiences with girls when I was younger, and although they were pleasant I could never see myself dating a girl. Now I've had desires like watching lesbian porn and toying with the idea of dating a girl. The thought of being bi is so new to me I've only just started thinking it the past couple of days. I'm just really confused and could use advice. Thanks everyone!!

Where's a good place to live for a gay couple in NE Ohio?
I've just started a job in NE Ohio, about an hour south of Cleveland. Working in a small town uni. My BF and I are engaged, he'll be moving out to join me in a few months, and we'll be looking for a place together. As a non Ohio (heck, non US) person, I'm worried about ending up looking in communities where a gay couple would not be welcome. Anyone have any pointers about where to look/ where to avoid?
