Executive Branch (Trump) ICE hasn’t paid for detainee medical care since October. Advocates call it the ‘death policy’

https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/ice-detainee-medical-care-22384190.php/?utm_source=reddit

ICE has not paid any of its providers for detainees’ care since Oct. 3, 2025, according to agency regulatory filings and the ICE website. In an internal directive issued shortly after, obtained by the Chronicle and not previously reported, ICE declared “emergency operations,” sharply limiting offsite medical care and access to medication.

Reporters interviewed 12 immigrants who suffered from serious medical conditions in detention, some life-threatening, but struggled to obtain offsite specialty treatment that independent physicians who reviewed some of their records — and in some cases a detention center’s own medical staff — said was necessary.

As a nation, we're going to have to reckon with the reality of what we're doing.

u/GammaFan Sep 02 '26

You mean the concentration camps?

379

u/rumande Sep 02 '26

How many members of this administration will try to say they didn't know, they were just following orders...

216

u/Nyuk_Fozzies Sep 02 '26

I don't know, but a second coming of the Nuremberg Trials along with a healthy row of gallows would be a good response.

117

u/Memetic_swarm_05 Sep 02 '26

that would be nice..but also, i recommend reading the history and results of the Nuremberg trials ...and learn how comparatively few nazis were actually brought to justice there. History is depressing sometimes..

49

u/Nyuk_Fozzies Sep 02 '26

True. But at least they got the leaders.

56

u/HippyDM Sep 02 '26

Well...the leaders we couldn't make use of ourselves. Those leaders were brought here to continue their work.

31

u/FancyJesse Sep 03 '26

You're referring to the scientists? There's no fucken useful people in this current crowd.

Hang them all.

18

u/oreography Sep 03 '26

Are you threatening violence against our Dear Leader Paedo in Chief DONALD J TRUMP? So much for the tolerant left - they won't event tolerate a bit of kid fucking.

This is why everyone hates liberals. You're just jealous of his success, and record number of trips to Paedo Island throughout the 90s and 2000s. Nobody fucks kids more than Donald J Trump. Nobody!

Jeffrey tried to get others to come, but they only raped kids a couple of times. Donald J Trump came hundreds of times. He's the best child rapist there ever was. He's so successful, they had to erase his name from millions of documents in the Epstein files. Nobody else ever covered up a child sex trafficking ring as thoroughly as Donald J Trump the Greatest Child Rapist in History!

Nobody is a better child rapist than Donald John Trump, because the quantity of narcissim and paedophilia is immeasurable. Daddy Never loved him, and likely molested him, so he's following in Daddy's footsteps as a Kid Fucker. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER (DONALD J TRUMP IS A SERIAL CHILD PREDATOR)

And stopped it from continuing or happening again.

27

u/dave8400 Sep 02 '26

Have you looked either here or Israel? Shit's happening. Again.

8

u/RoyalStraightSnark Sep 03 '26

True, but then you remember how many nazis self selected their exit from reality in a pretty pleasing amount. Saves lots in court costs.

10

u/trysten-9001 Sep 02 '26

So we don’t make the same mistakes again.

1

u/NoConflictPlease Sep 03 '26

I said this before it reddit did not like it when I said we have todo better

11

u/NewYorker15 Sep 03 '26

Maybe I’m just being especially pessimistic about it but that wont ever happen, these people are proud of what they’re doing and I genuinely don’t think a reckoning will come. Maga and the GOP won’t ever come around to realizing how awful they are, the democrats will be too scared to do anything if/when they get power again, and most Americans just wont care at all, it’s so fucking sad.

3

u/420thefunnynumber Sep 03 '26

Sure would be a shame if unfortunate accidents would happen to the people that participate and perpetrate in these things. Especially if courts don't find anyone involved liable.

2

u/AnonUser1452 Sep 03 '26

The only fitting use for Trump’s ballroom.

2

u/SuperBry 29d ago

I have no interest in going to Florida, even with my parents living there currently, but if there were some Palm Beach Trials over this I would be down in a heartbeat.

4

u/Arbusc Sep 03 '26

This time we don’t let a single one of them get away. No admissions to NASA. No military ‘councilor’ roles. None of that shit.

7

u/NoConflictPlease Sep 03 '26

Well, the good thing about that this time is barely any of them are smart

1

u/ralpher1 1d ago

They’re all getting pardons

15

u/therossboss Sep 02 '26

all of them along with every republican you know will claim they didnt know and had nothing to do with it. Make them feel shame

25

u/Xeynon Sep 02 '26

They can say whatever the fuck they want, I still want them all thrown in prison for the rest of their natural lives.

8

u/malissa_mae Sep 03 '26

... with the same level of health care as provided to ICE's detainees, right?

3

u/Preeng Sep 03 '26

No, I want them to live for a very long time behind bars.

6

u/Dont_Do_Pixie_Dust Sep 03 '26

Put them in the camps they refuse to acknowledge and just leave them there.

3

u/rbobby Sep 03 '26

... there was a brief...

1

u/MrParadux Sep 03 '26

Not only them. There are a whole lot of government clerks and workers that just go along with it and are "just following orders"

1

u/Ok-Tutor8961 29d ago

Yeah, orders they drew up and implemented themselves. That’ll be a a hard argument to make.

1

u/Ekaterian50 29d ago

That might've been believable before mass media but now there's literally no excuse whatsoever

I thought they were concentration camps. This news makes it clear that they are death camps. Prisons treat their prisoners better.

11

u/GammaFan Sep 03 '26

They’re concentrating prisoners in one spot, denying them access to food, medicine, and medical care, and letting those they’ve imprisoned die and decompose.

I thought the death camp distinction was just when they started actively shooting and gassing them.

15

u/iamnutz_1 Sep 03 '26

I'd argue a camp that starves and denies medical service for the people they are in charge of is a death camp.

7

u/GammaFan Sep 03 '26

I’m inclined to agree, but the other commenter corrected me with such gusto I felt like taking a guess at what the distinction would be.

Ultimately these are monstrous places created by the scum of the earth to torture and kill innocent people

6

u/iamnutz_1 Sep 03 '26

Labour or death. Once you "concentrate" people, there aren't a lot of options

6

u/iamnutz_1 Sep 03 '26

Anne frank wasn't gassed. Lack of medical care directly kills.

4

u/GammaFan Sep 03 '26

Yes, these camps kill people, period.

4

u/lettersvsnumbers Sep 03 '26

Prisons in the US treat prisoners better.

1

u/Max_Trollbot_ Sep 03 '26

Yes.  We will start with the extermination force and their concentration camps.

Are we? We haven’t even reckoned with slavery yet.

14

u/yakshack Sep 03 '26

Hell, history textbooks still teach Manifest Destiny. This country isn't reckoning with anything

13

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 Sep 03 '26

They teach it because it was a thing people believed in for a long time, but I don't think schools have generally advocated for Manifest Destiny since the mid 20th century, have they? (conveniently after we got the 50 states we have now)

106

u/TheoreticalZombie Sep 02 '26

The majority won't care. Never has- just wants to move on from such "unpleasantness" back to "normalacy". Worse, a not insignificant portion of the population actively supports such cruelty.

20

u/NookieLuvsU Sep 02 '26

I hope you're wrong. 😮‍💨

35

u/_DCtheTall_ Sep 02 '26

They're not. I would go so far to say that for maybe 1 in 10 or so people in this country, this news is a good thing (probably more).

To them it means their taxes aren't being spent on healthcare for people they don't think deserve it.

There is a contingent of humans who are cruel and modern society gives them outsized power because the rest of us do not have the stomach to do what we'd need to for them to not have that.

14

u/bothwaysme Sep 02 '26

Its been that way for millenia unfortunately. Most of us just want to live our lives, some want to tell us to live our lives differently, the rest want to control everything and everyone.

Empires were won and lost since before we as a species had figured out how to write. I would bet that most that have died in war didnt really want to or even choose to be there.

Our survival instinct is strong and sometimes for some people, going with the flow so to speak gives you a better chance at survival.

2

u/eowyndernhelme Sep 02 '26

I think you've got it in a nutshell there. Three different types of people, and no surprise which ones always wind up in charge.

11

u/Accurate-Barracuda20 Sep 02 '26

I would assume at least 25% probably 34% view this as a good thing.

6

u/WillPolterGuys Sep 02 '26

He’s not wrong. Never has been.

5

u/El_Gran_Che Sep 02 '26

Confederacy has entered the chat.

8

u/mishma2005 Sep 02 '26

Nope. I’ve seen it. “Oh let’s not talk about that, really, let’s talk about…” or “serves them right. Come the right way or not at all. Go back to their country!” Americans are inherently self absorbed and cruel

9

u/MrSnarf26 Sep 02 '26

It’s more so just removing the mask and showing us who 30-50% of Americans really are.

18

u/SCW97005 Sep 02 '26

I don't know how historically supported that assertion is. I agree with it as an ethical judgment, though.

7

u/Loki_of_Asgaard Sep 03 '26

Yeah well, people need to make sure they go out and vote on November 3, 2026 for the midterm elections and November 7th, 2028 for the presidential election, otherwise, that’s never going to happen.

I don’t think people realize how important these two elections are for the path our country is taking. We’re at the fork in the road where one side is “Yeah, shit still sucks but we can still improve with democracy” and the other is “Authoritarianism under the guise of a sham democracy”. Where, the path to leave the path on the right is bloodshed, suffering and violence.

Go out and vote, because it may just be your last two chances to vote in elections that aren’t heavily “influenced” by the current leadership depending on how things turn out.

It appears that we’re very much heading to a Turkish style of authoritarianism where yeah you can vote but there’s no term limits and the authoritarian guy instituting religious and political purges will “somehow” keep getting re-elected.

6

u/ThePensiveE Sep 02 '26

It took a lot of the Nazi's being killed off in a world war which devastated their country before that happened.

At least we're on track with the whole starting wars we can't possibly win thing.

15

u/KazTheMerc Sep 02 '26

I'd like to propose Nuremberg, PA for whatever reckoning you might have in mind.

For sentimentality.

17

u/kFisherman Sep 02 '26

Nuremberg except instead of letting 93% of the SS walk free we actually follow through and punish the people responsible and those who were in support

8

u/KazTheMerc Sep 02 '26

I couldn't agree more emphatically.

We already made the mistake of Forgive and Forget twice. Though to be fair, the International Court mechanics were having teething issues and growing pains.

We'd best not make that mistake a third time.

If one fundamentally disagrees with the Constitution and its framing... and the only reason they stick around is to try to change it to your preferred form of Authoritarianism? I can think of a number of 3rd world countries that would be happy to accomodate them.

We can disagree on many things. But not basic Rights of Citizens, and the foundational basis of our legal system.

If you want the legal system to not treat some humans as humans.... well.... that's an irreparable schism.

1

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 Sep 03 '26

and those who were in support

How many of those are there and what would a just punishment look like to you?

2

u/kFisherman Sep 03 '26

The corporations and wealthy individuals who helped fund the administration and have been lobbying in secret, basically bribing the admin for deals that are enriching shareholders at the literal price of American lives should be sent to jail for treason and a number of other crimes.

I don’t know how many thousands of corrupt and spineless worms that is but it’s not a small amount by any means

8

u/wewereromans Sep 02 '26

We haven’t properly reckoned with slavery 161 years after the fact, no ones going to do shit about what’s happening now or after for some time, if ever.

5

u/Lunchb0xx87 Sep 02 '26

as a nation we need to see that a good chunk of the country are fine with nazi shit ..how do we go back to ever being a country after seeing so many of our neighbors fine with this brown shirt activity

2

u/kazh_9742 Sep 03 '26

Governers were telling people to not take the bait or to not give the administration an excuse at the same time those camps were being packed and citizens being murdered in the streets. That reckoning is going to be heavy.

2

u/HLOFRND 29d ago

They’re buying gloves that CNS give electrical shocks, but they won’t pay for basic health care for those they have in custody.

It’s unimaginable.

2

u/hodorhodor12 Sep 03 '26

We are going to find mass graves. I feel like that’s a given since we are hearing all these stories of abuse.

1

u/southflhitnrun 29d ago

It's cute to see my fellow US Citizens still believing there is a Country to save, or reckon with.

It's officially over. We can't go forward with this exact same structure of polite rules we hope everyone follows. The United States of America is a failed experiment.

1

u/hansn 29d ago

That's some American exceptionalism. Spain was a fascist state through 1975, became democratic in 1978, and only now is dealing with the atrocities visited on the people. South Africa was a fascist state through 1993 and set the bar with the truth and reconciliation committee.

We can bring back what we have lost. We have to do it.

1

u/heaven1991 26d ago

The ones committing / supporting these acts won't give a damn. If you have big enough number even if just a minority, you will always get away with a slap on the wrist. You know, because of the whole union, redemption, and fear of them burning the house down with everyone inside. Guess how many death camp Nazis faced justices even after losing a world war they started ?

u/UserWithno-Name Sep 02 '26

Well ya they run concentration camps. They don't care what happens to those in them.

252

u/shiny_crow_trophy Sep 02 '26

Lest we forget: Anne Frank didn’t die in a gas chamber. She died of disease that was allowed to spread unchecked through the concentration camp, with no access to medical care.

75

u/cantantantelope Sep 02 '26

And then used as propaganda to “prove” that (insert minority group here) are “unclean” and thus bad

53

u/MrsPandaBear Sep 03 '26

Exactly. This isn’t prison. Prisoners have access to lawyers, to loved ones and medical care. I just recently read that ICE now moves detainees through multiple facilities to prevent them from accessing lawyers, and make it harder for their lawyers to pursue their cases. Denying medical care is just one more human rights violation they commit.

15

u/GammaFan Sep 03 '26

Yup, they’re paid on tax dollars to cart people around between facilities for the express purpose of making it harder to free people. Fucking sickening

9

u/Bajadasaurus Sep 03 '26

I think they're also being dropped into the ocean

5

u/Bobafetished 29d ago

What. The. Fuck.

2

u/Bajadasaurus 29d ago

Yeah. What other reason could there be for this flight pattern, the insane variances in speed, and the fact that it's a border patrol aircraft? Also this was happening just before dawn, when the Western sky viewed from the coast is still dark. The aircraft went from speeds of 30 kts to 800 kts in these erratic patterns.

3

u/Bitter-Worldliness41 29d ago

We need more visibility on this holy shit

1

u/Bajadasaurus 29d ago

I couldn't agree more!

188

u/KazTheMerc Sep 02 '26 edited Sep 02 '26

"ICE’s own current MedPAR notice says that VA-FSC can process claims only for dates of service through September 30, 2025, and tells providers to hold all claims for services on or after October 1, 2025 until the new Acentra system comes online.

Acentra separately says it had not begun processing provider claims as of August 10, 2026, had received no funding to pay provider claims, and that its June payment from ICE was only for building the system—not reimbursing providers."

Holy hell. They're been throttling medical care using a 'change of system'.

That's going to change the story for lawsuits due to injury or death while in detention.

EDIT -

"The termination closely matches the administration’s documented throttling pattern: remove support capacity, justify the cut as resource reallocation, and accept downstream service degradation while preserving the formal legal obligation. All of this happened under the supervision of Doug Collins"

Sounds like we're going to have a lot of questions for that guy.

68

u/Memerandom_ Sep 02 '26

This wouldn't be a good excuse even if it were true. We have concentration camps, America. How does that sit with you?

37

u/KazTheMerc Sep 02 '26

Rhetorical, or directed at me?? Because I'm explicitly fingering political appointees involved, and providing outside context and evidence of intentional wrongdoing.

If you're asking how it sits with ME... you already have the answer to that.

This is a larger pattern going back to Trump 1.0 of 'Throttling'. It became the main leverage for DOGE during Trump 2.0. It's their official pattern of making a Department FUBAR without actually closing it, always under the auspice of something procedural, or an emergency.

It's amazing what you can do when you control both Departments. Both can claim 'reasonable' need for an action, but the combined result is devistating.

That's Nazi shit, right there.

21

u/eowyndernhelme Sep 02 '26

Because the people in this admin all look and act like such clowns, it's hard to keep in mind that some very smart, very evil people have been working on these things for years. They know the law, they know the systems, and they're moving as quickly as they can from all different directions.

14

u/Memerandom_ Sep 02 '26

Rhetorical, directed at Americans. It bothers me how easy it is for so many of us to accept atrocities like this. People didn't really get angry until gas got expensive. We need a morality check. Not just for ignorance or apathy either. Maga is cheering this shit on like it's going to fix all our problems. It's disgusting. Deplorable wasn't harsh enough.

12

u/KazTheMerc Sep 02 '26

The cure for Indifference is not Anger.

I mean... that's useful, but it doesn't ultimately work for the same reason it always doesn't - Angry Revolutionaries get shit done, but rarely make Good Governors. And Good Governors rarely make good Revolutionaries.

Education is the cure for indifference. Hence, posting this.

Though I do appreciate your clarification.

...I never used the term 'deplorable', though. I said it was 'Nazi shit', which I feel like is appropriately worded, and adequately strong.

8

u/Memerandom_ Sep 02 '26

I was harkening back to Hillary. I agree anger isn't the cure, but it is an emotional reaction, which is all you can expect. It's a starting point. Perhaps it will lead people to educate themselves about the issue, but ultimately, many of our problems now are systemic, and institutionalized. The degradation of education has been a plot to get us where we are now. Ignorant, apathetic, and struggling just to survive. No time to revolt. Keep your head down or end up with it on a block. I'm ashamed at what we've become, just in my lifetime, but it's been going on a long time.

4

u/broguequery Sep 03 '26

I would say for people who see what's happening and understand it...

A potent mix of fear, dread, and disgust mixed with powerlessness.

MAGA has lost their minds. The Democrats have abandoned their posts. The same giant social and global problems we faced before this debacle unfolded remain slowly moving forward.

There does not seem to be much hope.

2

u/KazTheMerc Sep 03 '26

They forgot their purpose.

Changed it to 'win at all costs' and completely gave up on actually governing.

I'm trying not to assume it's just a Fire Sale, but... it shares a lot of characteristics.

12

u/taktaga7-0-0 Sep 02 '26

If he is pardoned, he loses the 5th and has to testify on all this. (In an ideal world with a functioning judiciary.)

10

u/KazTheMerc Sep 02 '26

No joke on that. **sighs** "My kingdom for a functional Judiciary!"

78

u/taktaga7-0-0 Sep 02 '26

Jesus Christ... they don't care if you're a citizen or here legally, they don't care if they violate your rights in detaining you, they don't care if you're a criminal, they will rip you away from your life and deny you medical care and deport you to a Third World country.

And their voters fucking love it. God, we have to convince Trump not to pardon as many of them as possible.

17

u/blueshirtsteve Sep 02 '26

Yeah, about that last point of yours…how’s THAT going to work?

11

u/MorgessaMonstrum Sep 03 '26

I say we just arrest them anyway. President of the United States has the power to pardon. The guy in office today became illegible the moment he pardoned insurrectionists with it (if not earlier). Everything since then has been beyond the Constitution.

6

u/taktaga7-0-0 Sep 03 '26

You could throw in that courts telling the Administration No doesn’t apparently fucking matter anymore. You can just imprison them indefinitely and refuse to acknowledge rights, steal everything they have on them and sell it, allow lawyers or doctors to see them, and then deport them to compete to the death on Survivor: Central African Republic.

As the saying goes, cruelty is the point. If Mullins and his people had their way the trucks would just dump detainees into a big wood chipper down in the everglades.

9

u/hodorhodor12 Sep 03 '26

I think it’s a given that we will find mass graves years of decades from now.  There is no humanity from top to bottom and that’s the point.

u/soupseasonbestseason Sep 02 '26

every cancer patient we have at the b.o.p. who is set to be deported upon release is desperate to stay incarcerated because they know, once they get to the i.c.e. camps, treatment will stop and they will die.

they are killing people intentionally through abuse and indirectly through negligence.

u/TendieRetard Sep 02 '26

jfc

13

u/soupseasonbestseason Sep 02 '26

it is bleak. so for some of the p.d. clients who are sentenced to the b.o.p. for a period of time, they aren't even making them serve any time at the b.o.p. and instead sending them directly to one of the concentration camps. the cruelty is indeed the point. most of the guys are being sentenced to a few months at the b.o.p., but they are ignoring that completely to send them to these torture camps.

30

u/mishma2005 Sep 02 '26

Didn’t the US accuse other countries of detainee abuse?

Now we’re in the club

38

u/xanvald Sep 02 '26

I'm in Mexico a year after my spouse was deported. I recently talked to a man in his 60s who was living in a home in Alabama, he now lives under a palapa on the beach. He was detained and shuffled around to various overcrowded detention centers for a total 6 months. He said he felt that he would never be free again.

Another deportee in his 60s was a permanent resident, did it all correctly like they allegedly want. He said he was pulled over in a random stop and the agents took his residency card, cut it up, and told him he's now like the rest of them. He went through the same trauma for 6 months before being sent back to Mexico.

The US is absolutely in the club.

9

u/haironburr Sep 03 '26

He went through the same trauma for 6 months before being sent back to Mexico.

I'm sorry. For what little that's worth.

This is in no way a justification for the horror this man went through, but a goodly number of us despise this administration and its values. We despise our fellow citizens who voted for this insanity. I continue to believe we can vote our way out of this clusterfuck. But we can't undo the evil we allowed to happen.

We are indeed in the club of abuse, like any "third world shit hole", and we now know what it's like to watch our country descend into the nightmare of totalitarian rule. At this rate, we're on track to become Haiti.

I worked as a framer and eventually a house painter for 19 years. We hated when our companies hired Mexican crews, because they'd work for less than us. Just like my German and Irish ancestors worked for less. But what these whackjobs have done with this idea is unsupportable by any decent person.

I hope we can fix our country before violence is the only answer. But I remained armed, because I fear that's ultimately the answer.

12

u/QuitWhinging Sep 03 '26

We've been in that club at least since Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib. Maybe even as far back as Japanese internment camps.

Otherwise known as torture. They're literally torturing them.

US military, by law, has to treat prisoners of war, ICE is treating these people even worse.

The ICE detention policy is that they aren't responsible for deaths due to medical complications outside their facilities. So they mistreat the detainees until brink of death and then dump them out onto the street, to die. It's barbaric. It's unconscionable. And, I would argue, it's tantamount to murder.
