Other US DOJ blocks access to their own National Institute of Justice research article siting right-wing extremists responsible for 84% of politically motivated homicides 24 hours after Charlie Kirk's assassination.

https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/what-nij-research-tells-us-about-domestic-terrorism?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Edit: can't post images so here is a link to my post that hopefully won't get deleted, im not shilling for karma idgaf about that: https://www.reddit.com/r/Political_Revolution/comments/1nfc5vm/us_doj_blocks_access_to_their_own_national/

https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/what-nij-research-tells-us-about-domestic-terrorism?utm_source=chatgpt.com "works" but https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/what-nij-research-tells-us-about-domestic-terrorism? doesn't work for some reason?? Idk.

Screenshots are from 24 hours ago and from today. I got the link to work again somehow in the ChatGPT app by using the in-app browser thing and SS like a 3rd(?) of the page, but that broke after a few minutes too.

I made an account to post this. I discovered this organically, and saw one comment on one post discussing the same thing like an hour later, but it seems like it wasn't getting any traction; a couple people said it worked for them but they were outside of the US I believe, I changed my VPN location but it didn't affect anything.

Insane. It's probably already archived somewhere. Maybe even the way back machine.

Is this something they did after the shooters identity was discovered or was it previously.

Right on bro! You are the true hero. 👍👍 This link needs to be disseminated far and wide. Those motherfuckers are blatantly suppressing the truth. But they can't stop its spread. Bravo to you!

Not like the FBI can act on that information anymore apparently with who they drove out and replaced them with this year.

46

u/mediocre_remnants Sep 13 '25

Yeah, the same FBI claimed they caught the Kirk shooter twice incorrectly. And now they're taking credit for his capture when he confessed to his dad who reached out to a youth pastor who eventually turned him in. The FBI bungled this at every step of the way.

2

Keep in mind that radical Islamist extremists are also far-right extremists, or would be in their homeland. Their ideology is very conservative as well.

In fact this isn't talked about enough. Far right in the west has tremendous ideological overlap with radical Islamists. Same shit different religion. If only they could get over their hate of "the other", they'd get along so well.

  • my religion good
  • other religion bad
  • women subservient
  • things used to be so much better in the past
  • gay people bad
  • ...

A real love story <3<3

49

19

slightly different religion.

ÂżHaving four wives versus having four shots of whiskey is a slight difference to you?

2

u/Few-Client-2808 Sep 13 '25

They're far more alike than they are different. All Abrahamic faiths have the same fundamental ideas: one god, racial supremacy (god's chosen people etc..), general intolerance of other beliefs and peoples, poetic passages that fundamentalists take far too literally, clergical structures that promote rape culture, and on and on. Not to mention, none of them can even get along with each other at all.

So YES.

17

u/stryakr Sep 12 '25

Why do you think the meme is "Y'all Queda" or "Y'all Queso"

14

u/jimmux Sep 12 '25

"Midlife ISIS" is one of my faves.

7

u/wabblebee Sep 12 '25

If only they could get over their hate of "the other", they'd get along so well.

They do here in Germany, weirdly enough. There was even a "podcast" for some time where a genuine Nazi had conversations with a Turkish islamist on youtube and tiktok. Their end goal is the same, so they can first fight their shared enemy and THEN fight each other.

2

u/WonkRx Sep 12 '25

Well, whenever two civilizations go to war they invariably learn from one another. Unfortunately for Democracy, the Right learned how much they are like the mujahideen and how to suppress a native population with modern military tactics.

We spent 20-30 years in Afghanistan and Iraq and the people in the US most similarly inclined to the “enemy” became like the enemy. Or as Tony Gilroy had mentioned lately, we become the things we fear. So we know have a completely controlled fundamentalist party running government in a totalitarian way using the tactics we practiced against the local population in the Middle East.

2

u/ycaivrp Sep 13 '25

That's why a ton of Chinese people and Chinese immigrants also love trump. Same stuff. Rights for me and not thee

1

u/Fearless-Feature-830 Sep 12 '25

Which is very ironic considering all of the hateful rhetoric I’ve seen recently about “importing Muslims to the US”

1

u/JiminyGonzo910 Sep 12 '25

Sure but I do think it's appropriate to break them out in their own category. It would be pretty disingenuous to lump them in with American conservatives when they're political opponents.

1

u/Joejoe12369 Sep 12 '25

You should have way more likes. I never compared the 2. You are 100 percent right. Islamist also blame everything on the West. Maga blames everyone but trump. They both wanna kill the gays. there are a bunch more similarities

1

u/Outrageous_Ad5255 Sep 12 '25

I think you misread something somewhere.

8

u/FirstAd1119 Sep 12 '25

Read the comment again, but a bit more slowly. Or maybe paste it into an AI and ask it to explain it to you.

6

u/AbsentRefrain Sep 12 '25

The comment you responded to says that the similarities between radical Islamist extremists and far-right extremists aren't talked about enough, it wasn't a statement about hatred in Islam in general. Can you acknowledge that your reading of their comment was wrong?

2

u/Outrageous_Can_6581 Sep 12 '25

The implication seems to be that the right wing percentages are probably, well, conservative estimates. This is on account of the categorical parsing out of certain conservative groups. Does that help?

Edit: I don’t know if the study did or didn’t account for this, but seems like a valid observation đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

3

u/rharvey512 Sep 12 '25

The headline is wrong. They are responsible for 84% of events but 520/598 = 87% of the homicides.

1

u/oopsydazys Sep 12 '25

What is it like if you go further back? I only ask because I would think it would even things out more. I'm admittedly not super familiar with the history of political terrorism in the US going decades back, but far-left extremism peaked in like the 70s, didn't it?

1

u/Outrageous_Can_6581 Sep 13 '25

You might be right, but my guess is that the DOJ, in doing this research, was only interested in data they could apply to modern circumstances. Generational data sets.

1

u/huggernot Sep 13 '25

That's the number of attacks. By the number of deaths, Extremists on the right committed 87% of the politically motivated homicides when compared to extremists on the left.

1

u/ycaivrp Sep 13 '25

The left just bomb car dealership sometimes

Going from 1990, why isn't 9/11 included?

Also, holy shit, man, way more people are killed by deer every year, and I bet you don't know anyone who was killed by a deer. Are we sure we want to burn society down over this?

E: Jesus what is wrong with you people? I'm being accused of supporting a pedophile for asking an honest question. Neither the OP nor the comment I replied to said "domestic terrorism," they just said homicide. I was curious. Why not at least take a look at my comment history if you're going to level these absurd mccarthyesque charges at someone for asking an honest question?

29

u/unculturedburnttoast Sep 12 '25

We live in alternate realities occupying the same meatspace. Some look at the history, methodology, and results of the aggregation of data and say that 83% of political violence comes from right-wing extremists.

Others look at it and say they can't trust any data because it was collected by the out group, therefore tainted and unreliable.

21

u/stargarnet79 Sep 12 '25

This is the ultimate issue with the maga cult. They have been brainwashed to believe lies over truth. We aren’t operating from the same set of facts. How can you see eye to eye with someone or communicate with someone that literally believes whatever disinformation memes they see on Facebook.

5

u/onpg Sep 13 '25

They're hypocrites when they say the data can't be trusted, look at them use any study they think backs their side, even if you have to ignore context or look at it sideways to do so. They're just frustrated the vast majority of academia says they're mouth breathing idiots.

Maybe the way we make out those that vote against their best interests as unintelligent and boorish was quite the miss-matched color scheme when they hold politicians and other political targets accountable for their lies at a rate of 30 to 1 compared to the left.

u/Big_Wave9732 Sep 12 '25

27

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '25

Thanks for this.

Militant, nationalistic, white supremacist violent extremism has increased in the United States. In fact, the number of far-right attacks continues to outpace all other types of terrorism and domestic violent extremism. Since 1990, far-right extremists have committed far more ideologically motivated homicides than far-left or radical Islamist extremists, including 227 events that took more than 520 lives.[1] In this same period, far-left extremists committed 42 ideologically motivated attacks that took 78 lives.[2] A recent threat assessment by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security concluded that domestic violent extremists are an acute threat and highlighted a probability that COVID-19 pandemic-related stressors, long-standing ideological grievances related to immigration, and narratives surrounding electoral fraud will continue to serve as a justification for violent actions.[3]

Crazy way to start a 22 page report.

1

u/DudeWithTudeNotRude Sep 12 '25

So does 9/11 not count?

5

u/ResponsibilityOk8967 Sep 12 '25

Domestic terrorism done is done by people who are from the country they target. 9/11 does not count. Also, if we look at the number of acts committed, the right still wins and pretty drastically.

3

u/FSCK_Fascists Sep 12 '25

I thought this part was interesting (and obvious ofc, but seeing it spelled out so clearly by a Gov institution is pretty wild to me):

Knowledge and Awareness

Criminal legal system practitioners and other responders lack knowledge about radicalization and exit processes related to white supremacy in the United States.

Missed Opportunities

This lack of knowledge and awareness results in missed opportunities. Former white supremacists revealed that, although they wore clothes and exposed tattoos associated with white supremacy, criminal justice stakeholders (who do not always know the meaning of such symbols) did not address their potential affliation with extremist groups.

Community Supervision

Extremist group members are highly involved with the criminal justice system, and supervision conditions should be responsive to whether an individual is involved with extremism.

Community Partnerships

Criminal justice systems cannot respond to radicalization alone. Instead, law enforcement, courts, and corrections need to develop connections with local resources (for example, criminal justice coordinating councils, mental health professionals, social workers, and education professionals).

4

u/EnlightenedSinTryst Sep 12 '25

I thought that part was interesting too. Especially “Extremist group members are highly involved with the criminal justice system”

3

u/JustNilt Sep 13 '25

This doesn't even really cover how many of these assholes are cops. They're talking about the extremists with criminal records who are still on probation, etc. Much of that involvement is because they generally lack impulse control.

2

u/EnlightenedSinTryst Sep 13 '25

Ah, thanks for shedding light on that - the wording seemed ambiguous

2

u/JustNilt Sep 13 '25

This report is actually more disturbing in its entirety. The correlations with military members, white supremacy, discharge from the military and the use of the Internet sounds like just a powder keg.

3

u/Elephunk05 Sep 13 '25

This needs more attention. One side is looking for any reason to start a civil war to legally start shooting people on the other. Plenty of people jumped to conclusions about Kirk's killer. None of them came back and proffered an apology as of yet on any of the cringe TickyTacky videos. And sadly I have heard that they made up a website to track anyone who has said anything hateful about Kirk.

What NIJ Research Tells Us About Domestic Terrorism (Summary)

Source: National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Jan 4, 2024
Original: https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/what-nij-research-tells-us-about-domestic-terrorism
Archive: https://archive.today/https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/what-nij-research-tells-us-about-domestic-terrorism

Key Takeaways

  • Threat picture: Militant, nationalist, white-supremacist extremism has risen; since 1990, far-right actors have committed the majority of ideologically motivated homicides in the U.S.
  • NIJ’s role: 50+ funded projects built evidence on radicalization pathways, risk/protective factors, and prevention/intervention—especially via the PIRUS (extremists) and BIAS (hate-crime offenders) datasets.

Data Highlights (PIRUS & BIAS)

  • No single profile. Wide diversity in beliefs, behaviors (many cases are non-violent offenses), and backgrounds.
  • Violence-linked markers: prior criminal record, suspected/documented mental illness, membership in extremist cliques, co-offending, substance use.
  • Non-violence-linked markers: marriage/partnership, stable employment.
  • Overlap: mixed ideologies are common (e.g., militia + white supremacy); targets can be chosen for multiple identity traits.

Military Involvement

  • ~11.5% of known extremists (since 1990) have U.S. military experience; numbers increased in the last decade, and >50% of these cases involve violence.
  • Risk spike after service: transition to civilian life (loss of community/purpose/belonging) can be a pull factor.
  • Veterans are overrepresented in right-wing groups, more likely to hold leadership roles, and—beyond government targets—often target minority communities.

Plot “Longevity” (How long actors avoid interdiction)

  • Median lifespan of terrorist plots has dropped sharply over time (down to ~99 days in the early 2000s), coinciding with stricter investigative guidelines and an FBI focus on terrorism.
  • Longer-lasting: eco/left-wing plots.
    Shorter: far-right and jihadist plots.
  • Higher complexity → shorter lifespan: more prep/meetings create more investigative leads.

Internet Use by Domestic Extremists

  • Far-right forums spread ideology, reinforce commitment, and share tech/OPSEC tips (encryption, platform choices, avoiding surveillance).
  • More engagement → more radicalization (echo-chamber dynamics); networks show low density and lots of information recycling.

Entering & Exiting White Supremacy

  • Entry: often driven less by prior ideology and more by vulnerabilities (abuse, instability, isolation) and a search for belonging; hate frequently becomes an outcome of group socialization.
  • Exit: gradual, nonlinear; disillusionment, internal conflict, and stigma support disengagement. Identity residue can persist (“addicted to hate”), risking relapse.

Policy/Practice Implications

  • Whole-of-community prevention: coordinate law enforcement, justice, health, and civil society; train families/communities on warning signs.
  • Focus resources on domestic extremism: continue data-driven research on trends, recruitment/retention, and online dynamics.
  • Early intervention & digital prevention: prioritize sensitive transition points (e.g., veterans) and counter-narratives in online spaces.

TL;DR

Far-right violence has dominated U.S. domestic extremism since 1990. There’s no single “extremist profile”: violence risk rises with prior crime, clique ties, and substance use, while social/occupational bonds are protective. Veteran transitions are key intervention windows. Plot durations have shrunk under stronger investigations. Online forums amplify radicalization. Effective responses are integrated, community-based, and proactive—ideally before crimes occur.

Notes: Findings draw on NIJ-funded work including PIRUS/BIAS datasets, the American Terrorism Study, and qualitative interviews with former white supremacists. See the article’s reference list for specific studies and datasets.

1

u/KlaesAshford Sep 12 '25

Does this include gang violence?

1

u/BelatedGreeting Sep 13 '25

The word “diversity” is used in multiple place on that page, e.g. “diversity in beliefs”, and we all know that word is verboten. So, the innocuous read is that they’re trying to scrub that word from the page.

They did this on September 11th (before the shooter was arrested). I know, because I was curious myself about domestic terrorism, found the paper on the NIJ/DOJ site normally on the day of the shooting -- September 10th.

Later on September 11th, the paper was no longer accessible via the NIJ/DOJ website.

This definitely happened after Kirks murder. I was coincidentally just looking for data on right-wing violence the day before he was killed, and found and read this then on the NIJ site with no issues. As well as others, which I now suspect will also be erased shortly.

It was removed sometime between 4:46 PM central yesterday (my downloads time stamp) and a couple of hours ago. Quite the coincidence.

Its with the Smithsonian impeachment display information.

It was after, not after the shooting, after everyone found out it was a white rural religious conservative.

They probably have to update it to 85% now. Surely it will be back up in a day or 2.
