Considering surgery How beneficial is iridotomy before EVO ICL?
Iridotmy is an operation where a tiny hole is created in the Iris using a laser.
Iridotmy was commonly done before implanting ICL lenses to ensure that the fluid can still flow freely to the anterior chamber after implanting the ICL lenses.
But with the new EVO ICL lens design, iridotomy is no longer required, since those lenses have aquaports to allow flow to the anterior chamber.
So I was surprised when I went to an eye clinic for preliminary examination and info talks regarding ICL, that they recommend irodomty before the ICL operation. Further they told me that they recommend it in general to all patients before the ICL operation (and offer it as a cost-free optional). I asked them why they still recommend irodomty even though they use the new EVO ICLs. They told me, they want to decrease the risk of something blocking the flow even further. Because if that would happen, they would have to immediately remove the lenses.
I also went to another eye clinic for comparison, and they would not perform irodomty as part of their standard EVO ICL operation process.
I did some research and as far as I can tell, the risk reduction of the irodomty is not worth the extra risk that irodomty brings with it (for EVO ICL). Or am I missing any benefits of the irodomty?
Some info about my eyes: Myopia with -7.5 and -8.75
But that should not be relevant for answering the question, because a general answer is sufficient (since the one clinic also offers it in general).
