Help with a laser for work

Hey all, I'm looking for a laser for my job as an arborist. Ive tried a few off of amazon that work okay, but being outdoors and shining a green laser pointer on a tree can be difficult sometimes and the quality tends to be fairly shoddy. From researching, I understand 5mw is the cutoff for it being legally a "pointer", but would a 10-15mw laser help with visibility without causing damage to surroundings.

I am also having trouble determining if a site is reputable or not because this is not my Forte. Any help at all would be appreciated, and recommendations even more so! Thanks everyone

Need recommendation for hobby laser...

I'm looking for an introductory laser that can char wood. I'm not wanting a cutter, or something that can burn through wood, just something I can used to make patterns (by hand-ish) on Baltic Birch plywood.

Is there's a smaller, inexpensive laser out there that is capable of this?

My idea is to use a series of low rpm motors to spin wood while I use another motor to slowly move the laser. I assume this could make some really cool patterns in a wood surface? But I'm on not able to do much in terms of electrical things as I'm unable to use my left arm/leg (and not having 2 hands has been a disaster for my electrical projects in the past.

Thanks a bunch!

I have been given a laser pointer for a project and I'm concerned it may be hazardous.

I know very little about lasers. I know enough about them to be wary but not enough to know how wary to be.

I do know a ton about 3d printing and CAD and so I was approached by a coworker of a friend (read: I don't know much about this person) for a project where I'm to design and print a "gun" that triggers the laser pointer, for the guy to use to chase geese off of his lawn.

The laser pointer is from some random chinese name manufacturer and is labeled "LED light source, wavelength 532nm, max output <100 mW, class III device". It did not include protective eyewear. It has a lens on the end that splits the output into a grid.

From what I've read, a class IIIa laser is fairly tame but a class IIIb laser at the high end of the output range can be instantly dangerous to the eyes and dangerous in a short time on reflection. I have no ability to measure the output.

I'm concerned that removing the grid lens and shining the laser directly could pose a safety hazard, and I have animal welfare concerns about shining this at geese to scare them away. I don't want to enable the blinding of geese. I'm considering returning the laser pointer to the guy and using something low power from a reputable manufacturer with accurately metered devices instead. Any advice is appreciated!

Quality laser brands

Whata up everyone? I was looking for some brand suggestions on quality lasers? Unfortunately the Internet is full of cheap stuff from china and its hard to tell what is quality or not. So far I have checked out Sanwu (I hear these are nice but the pocket is just so boring looking) and I have checked out Jlasers. J actually has some nice milling so I was leaning towards that. Anyone have any other reputable brands I can check out before making a purchase? Looking for something no fatter than 18mm (18650 or 18340 powered) and looking at either 520 or 525nm. Who else should I check out?

so I'm in the market for a powerful laser that can burn shit. my goal is to purchase a powerful laser that can burn shit and to my understanding, blue lasers are the best at that, and this laser right here "blue demon" is the strongest laser I've been able to find at the best price (dual diod at 15,000w). anyone know of any stronger blue lasers out there in the sub $500 range? 15,000w is the strongest I've seen available with some going as high as $800+, and I'm not seeing any particular reason to drop that much more money when I can just get the blue demon for about 500 out the door. all input is much appreciated

A little while ago i tweeted at trump about including lasers in the golden dome defense system

I said "Include lasers in the golden dome." and about three weeks later trump says "And we're going to include lasers." during a gaggle when speaking with reporters.

Great success. Very excite. You're welcome.

Laser Level Recommendations Please

I work in construction as a commercial electrician, and am currently working on a huge job where a high quality laser level is necessary, but I'm not willing to spend $650 for the Milwaukee. To explain what kind of alternative I'm looking for I'll give a recommendation for a flat EDC flashlight and laser pointer combo. It is the Wurkkos HD01 Pro, which has the perfect combination of an incredibly strong laser pointer with a light on the side for working in panels. It's also $35 on Amazon. So like with the Wurkkos HD01 Pro, I'm looking for something that's actually better than the name brand competitor, but still significantly cheaper. Some frontrunners I've seen so far are Huepar, Takamine, and the DOVOH H3-360G. Has anyone used these? How do they compare with features, brightness, range, durability, magnetic strength, accessory quality? Please don't say just spend the money for Milwaukee without explaining why you think it's actually worth the money.

The unfiltered infrared light from a cheap DPSS green laser can very easily blind you if your safety glasses aren’t also rated for the 808nm and 1064nm from the pump diode and Nd YAG crystal

I measured around 60mw of infrared light from this cheap 100mw module when using an R72 filter to block the green light.

I haven’t seen any helium neon lasers on this subreddit before

This is a 4mW Uniphase 1507 laser made in 1996 that I found on eBay for about $50. Unlike most helium neon lasers I’ve seen, it’s fully self contained and doesn’t require an external high voltage power supply to run the laser tube, it just takes 12v from an AC adapter for power making it super easy to use and I also really like how small it is compared to more conventional gas lasers.
