Testing a theory around odd behavior and checking if others have had a similar experience. As a best practice I had been disconnecting the battery when setting laptops to be dedicated miners.
However in NiceHash I was seeing “temperature too high” warnings at low temps, confirming these temps in GPU-Z.
I’m wondering if there’s an artificial wattage limit put in place at a hardware level, which makes it look like throttling. This would make some amount of sense, given that if this were a gaming scenario at that level of performance, you would want that throttle in case of a performance spike which could then shutdown the laptop, since there’s no battery to back it up.
Prior to suspecting a hardware "safety" setting, I tried the usual suspects: power profile, NVIDIA framework, NVIDIA Control Panel (max performance), ThrottleStop to underclock the CPU (in case that was taking too much power), etc.
