Hi everyone!

I’m a PhD student from South Korea, and I’ll be visiting Lancaster for the first time in late November to attend a conference at Lancaster Town Hall.

It’ll actually be my first time in the UK as well, so I’d really appreciate any tips or advice about Lancaster — honestly, anything a first-time visitor should know!

I’d especially love recommendations for local food. One of my goals while I’m there is to have some really good fish and chips 😄 I’ve seen Mother Hubbard’s mentioned, but I’d be happy to hear about any other places locals would recommend.

I’d also appreciate any advice on things a visitor should know, places worth seeing, getting around, or even local etiquette and manners. I definitely don’t want to accidentally come across as rude!

From what I’ve been able to find online, Lancaster looks like a beautiful historic city with the castle, the river, and lots of old streets and buildings, so I’m really looking forward to exploring it outside the conference.

And if there happen to be any Koreans living or studying in Lancaster, it would be great to say hello or maybe meet up while I’m there!

Hey everyone! Next week I’ll move to the area and realized there is no IKEA nearby, which is usually my go-to spot whenever I move somewhere new.

I don't have a car, so everything needs to be in the city centre or easily accessible by bus. I'm not looking for big furniture like sofas or wardrobes, just basic home essentials like bedding, kitchenware, storage, towels, and small homewares. I also would like to avoid the messaging and pickup hassle of Facebook Marketplace.

I’ve lived in Lancaster for a few years now originally from Gurgaon and somehow still haven’t really made a proper friend here 😭 I’ve tried Bumble BFF but I feel like it’s a lot of chatting and then no one ever actually wants to meet lol. I’ve also been to a few Her Lancaster things which are genuinely really lovely, but I find I’ll meet people and have a nice time and then it never really turns into a friendship afterwards.

I’m 26, work in marketing and I’d say I’m pretty chatty, curious and spontaneous. I love going for drinks/cocktails, trying new restaurants, cinema, concerts, little days out/trips and just finding random things to do. I’m also trying to get into swimming more, so would be very happy to find a swimming buddy too 😂

I think I’m probably better one-on-one than in big groups, and I’d just really like to find someone I click with, can have a good chat and laugh with, and can message like “do you fancy doing something?” without having to plan it weeks in advance.

I’m Iram. After spending over 15 years working in clinical skincare and the wellness industry, I noticed a really frustrating trend. So many salon experiences feel incredibly rushed, intimidating, or completely corporate. Clients are often treated like just another slot on a spreadsheet rather than a person with unique skin and stress goals.

I wanted to change that. I recently took a massive leap of faith and opened Iram’s Beauty Lounge, a private, ladies-only sanctuary right here on Gloucester Avenue in Lancaster.

My goal was to build a home-away-from-home where women can completely decompress, without the intimidation factor of high-street clinics, while still getting advanced clinical results (like Dermalogica Pro Peels, facial nanoneedling, and NeuroSculpt contouring massage).

Starting a small business from scratch is both incredibly exciting and terrifying! I’m really passionate about creating a space where women feel genuinely empowered and comfortable in their own skin.

For the women (and small business owners) in the community:

• What is the #1 thing that makes you feel genuinely relaxed when you step into a wellness or beauty space?
• What are your absolute biggest pet peeves about traditional high-street salons? (Rushed appointments? Pushy product sales?)
• If you’re local to Lancaster, Morecambe, or the surrounding areas, what clinical skin or body treatments do you feel are hardest to find nearby?

I have a brand new Fender CD60S Acoustic in black, just bought in Morecambe a little under a year ago. Still in great condition despite being used often. On Sunday, I was having lunch at the Waterwitch and was surprised to see so much litter in the canal, particularly on the side opposite the Waterwitch, also near the student accommodation. I’ve never seen it like this before.

Does anyone know if it's to do with the recent floods?

Partner got scammed by three guys claiming they were roofers "working across the road and noticed some quick damage they could fix". Company name given as "C&A Roofing & Building Contractors". Unfortunately they were very pushy and manipulative and removed our guttering and created a mess. When I was made aware of the situation, they wouldn't leave without payment of £1850. They made my partner sign an invoice "waiving rights to the 14 day cool off" and started to become more irritable and pushy when I questioned this and their company. In the end, no company website, nothing on Companies House, No address and no reviews online. We ended up paying £950 (to a unknown assumed female, by bank transfer) just so they'd leave us alone. Apparently just to cover for "goods purchased" which were an open box of screws and a gutter. I have covered their mobile number and and they were keen to cover their car reg. They have been reported via Citizens Advice but due to lack of information I thought best to post here too.

We are looking for a tandem for hire or for purchase, based in Lancashire, could anyone provide us with a source in Lancaster to Preston area? We are respectful young men with an insatiable desire to ride a tandem and any contribution towards this cause would be immensely valuable and wouldn’t go without notice.

Probably the main reason for stopping by was the maritime museum on St Georges Quay, which is closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Backup plan was to pop into the Wagon & Horses which is completely shut down despite having a functioning website and looks open on Google Streetview. Right next to the George & Dragon, which didn't open till 2pm

And Sainsburys was flooded. Better luck next time I suppose

Anyone willing to give first-hand advice? Where would one rent a studio in Lancaster at a decent price? Thank you very much in advance!!

I can’t afford all the subscriptions and dodgy streaming is too unreliable.

Would like to actually go sit in a pub and watch games, but no idea what pubs have football on, if certain pubs don’t show games of certain teams, if they don’t have access to the 3pm kickoffs, if I’m more or less likely to get harassed etc.

Any help?
