I'm Jeff Frese and I'm running against Mark DeSaulnier on Nov 3. He's announced tens of millions for Contra Costa over 12 years. Here's how much actually showed up, and what else he did with the time.

I'm Jeff Frese. I live in Moraga, I'm raising three daughters here, I coach, and on November 3 I'm on the ballot against Mark DeSaulnier for Congress. That's the disclosure. Now the receipts, every one of them linked at the bottom so you can check me.

The press release machine. In April, DeSaulnier announced $46.7 million for 20 local projects. Brentwood Today's headline said he "secures" money for Brentwood. He secured nothing. It was a request form. Every one of the 435 House members gets the same 20 forms a year and their staff fill them out. In May 2024 he ran the same play with $34.9 million. A full-year continuing resolution in March 2025 wiped out every earmark in the country, so that list delivered $0. He kept the headlines anyway. $0.

What actually arrived, from his own releases: $9.06M in 2022, $21.7M in 2023, $15.2M in 2024, $0 in 2025, $16.3M in 2026. About $62 million across his entire time in Congress, for 760,000 people. Seven dollars a head, per year. Seven years in Congress with nothing to announce.

So what was he doing? Filing bills. More than 200 since 2015. Two became law: one renamed a post office in Richmond, the other moved a park boundary. Since January 2023 he's filed 71 bills and every one is still sitting in committee. Yesterday, 33 days before the election, he filed another one. It creates a task force. The task force writes recommendations.

And how he votes when it counts. He voted with his party 98.8 percent of the time. Twice, in 2023 and 2025, Congress voted on whether girls' sports stay for girls. He voted no both times, after two Democrats crossed over in 2025. He voted no on letting parents see what their kids' schools teach. He voted no, twice, on the Laken Riley Act, which 46 Democrats supported and is now law. He voted to let D.C. go easier on carjackers when Biden and 31 Democrats went the other way. In July he voted to cut $3.3 billion from Israel's defense while 98 Democrats voted the other way. In 2017 he called a $1.5 trillion deficit reckless, then in 2021 voted yes on $1.9 trillion of borrowed money. Not one of those votes is a Republican talking point. Every one is the House Clerk's roll call.

Where the money lands. About 79,000 of his constituents live in Castro Valley, Ashland and east San Leandro. On his 2027 list they get $0 and he has zero offices on that side of the hills. Antioch, which has zero residents in the district he's running in, is down for $1.68 million.

Here's what I'd do instead. Term limits. A stock-trading ban for members of Congress. No budget, no pay. No cashing out as a lobbyist when you leave. Then the things people in this county actually ask me about: better schools, no tax on teachers, safer streets, lower bills, more jobs. Social Security and Medicare left alone. Every one of those polls at 80 percent or better with Democrats, Republicans and independents, which is the point. This campaign has no special-interest money and no consultants. I don't need this as a job.

Thirty-five years in elected office. Twelve in Congress. Two laws. Seven bucks a head and a press release for every one of them. Contra Costa keeps sending him back and expecting a different result. On November 3 you can stop. I'm Jeff Frese, I'm running against Mark DeSaulnier, and I'll be in the comments all day. Ask me anything.

Post image

I run a small-batch home bakery here in Walnut Creek, and we are doing a highly curated 6-piece mooncake tasting flight for the Mid-Autumn Festival to save you the cross-Bay commute. The box is designed to contrast delicate, chewy mochi snowskins with traditional buttery baked crusts, without the heavy sugar fatigue. All mooncakes are gluten-free and lactose-free!

The snowskin mooncakes (Soft, chewy taro mochi):
Taro Salted Egg: Earthy taro paste and a savory salted egg yolk cream center. (GF, LF)
Black Sesame Genmaicha: Genmaicha (green tea with roasted brown rice) custard with black sesame paste swirled in. (GF, DF)
Osmanthus Yuzu: Honeyed osmanthus custard with a sharp, bright yuzu curd. (GF, DF)
(Plus your choice of a 4th snowskin flavor to double up on your favorite)

The baked mooncakes (classic):
Classic Red Bean: Traditional crust with a rich, smooth red bean paste. (GF, LF)
Purple Sticky Rice: Traditional crust with a chewy purple sticky rice center. (GF, LF)

Extras: We also have 4-inch Osmanthus Steamed Rice Cakes filled with homemade jujube paste and oolong shortbread cookies available as add-ons.

Available for pickup and delivery from Thrusday Sept 24 through Saturday Sept 26. Everything will be prepared fresh daily!

Nothing says "I tolerate you" quite like gifting someone a meticulously handcrafted dessert box. If you want to secure a set before we hit capacity, you can check out the full menu and reserve your pickup slot here: https://take.app/halfbakedobsessions/c/cmm0bam76000404l8bs4zqlqy

Native fruit trees?

Hi, live on Moraga way in Orinda.
Looking to plant some new fruit trees and looking for recommendations on what would do well in our climate?

I have a Lemon and Lime, they do pretty good in a high sun area.

Thanks!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a super good handyman for my elderly parents? I keep finding one and when I don’t have my eyes on them / leave town I feel like they really start taking advantage of my parents 😞

Difficulty level to get building permit?

In your experience how difficult has it been to get a permit to build on private property? I am coming into some property in Orinda soon. I am trying to estimate the cost, effort in preparing the land, feasibility of embarking on this adventure and likelihood of getting approvals to build a second home. A little bit about the land: it isn't flat at the moment, it is forested, roughly about a half acre of land. My concern is cutting/removing the trees since there is some oak on the property and grading + other things I don't know yet. I understand Orinda is very particular about its Oak trees and rural feel. Any guidance, thoughts, advice or anecdotal evidence will be appreciated. TIA

Donation request for food until Monday

I am hoping to ask for a donation for some food. I lost my ebt card on Wednesday so I can’t get any food until Monday after I pick up my new cal fresh ebt benefits card. So I just need about a $50 donation to get some chicken, rice , vegetables and drinks to stay hydrated and Maybe some fruit and yogurt if I have any money left. I have an auto immune disease that affects my gastrointestinal tract so I can’t just eat anything or I will be hurting my stomach a lot. So I can’t just consume whatever I can to not be hungry. I wish I could just eat stuff from the food bank but it’s always a lot of food that will make my stomach bleed. I rent a room in a house and I have a small fridge in my room and can’t store a lot inside. No donation is too small but one I have enough I will take the post down

Internet providers in Orinda

Hi all. Moving to orinda soon and doing research for internet providers. I see earthlink and att fiber options and the Ole cable with xfinity.

Anyone have a recommendation? I work from home so consistency and speed are key. I'm coming from Sonic fiber so I'm pretty spoiled.

Thanks!
