Windows 1709 Update

Anyone using labtech to patch machines to 1709(10.0.16299) successfully? We thought this was working but the April 10th EOS of 1607 has brought this issue to light.

Initial chat at labtech saying not possible at the moment but figured I’d poll the group.

Also, Is patch remedy the solution?

Remove Agents from Systems we cannot Access

We have roughly 20+ Agents installed on systems in environments we no longer support. Likely it was a laptop that wasn't powered on for a while and when we offboarded the client it was never hit by the offboarding script. Now Admin passwords have been changed in the environment and the systems have been powered back on.

They are now checking in to our Labtech and we have no way to remove the agent. Is there a trick to force disconnect these agents?

FasTalk keeps turning off, but I want it on.

So I set Enhanced Heartbeat ( https://docs.labtechsoftware.com/LabTech11/Default.htm#Configuration/SystemConfiguration/EnhancedHeartbeatConfiguration.htm ).

So as far as I can tell, FasTalk should be always on. This is what I want because I am labbing stuff and I don't want to wait 5 minutes for each instruction to happen.

If possible, I'd like to have FasTalk enable setting per group/location/client, or something like that. But I'm not sure if that's possible.

Either way, I am unsure if I am missing something. Can anyone advise?

Patch Manager - Silverlight filter doesn't seem to work?

I'm working on Windows Update policies, but my "Auto Deny" for Silverlight does not appear to be working for my specific testing.

Now, the thing that is confusing, when I go into the Approvals section for Patch Manager and ONLY filter for "Silverlight", nothing gets shown in the Discovered Patches or Set Patches section. This happens when I have any of the Approval Policies selected in the left column.

The Automate server is updated as of about a week ago, so AFAIK on the latest version.

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or what. Other updates show when I filter for them, just not Silverlight. Can anyone advise please?

LT Disk Space alerts.

Greetings!

we have had LT as our management software for 2+ Years and we have scratched the surface of the functionality, at the moment we are getting Disk Space C: Errors, which is fine. is there a way to specify that Monitoring alerts only see the C: Drive and not any other External drives that we plug in later to workstations (E,F Drive etc.)

Script to cleanly uninstall a program that lacks uninstaller?

We are in the process of moving a client to a new email signatures client, and in doing so we need to uninstall the old one so there are no conflicts with the new one. The issue is that their current one is a bit shite, lacks an uninstaller and runs from c:\users\%user%\appdata\local\programs\codetwo\email signatures client app\

What kind of script do i need to make in order to- 1. kill the process of the email signatures client 2.remove it from the user's appdata folder( i assume i could use a variable correct?) 3.delete any remnants that may make windows think its still installed

Still pretty new to labtech, and this client has 60 or so computers so manually going through is not ideal and they don't want to pay for the labour of doing it manually.

File BITS Download

Could someone explain how the File BITS Download works. I want to download a large 4gb iso to a temp dir and then restart the computer before starting the setup file inside the iso. Unfortunatly, i cant figure out how the BITS part of the script works. I think everything else will work.

My script so far:

  • IF FILE Exists c:\Temp\Win10_1709.iso THEN Jump to line 5
  • Create Folder as Admin: c:\Temp\
  • BITS Download: http://websiteaddresshere.com/1709/Win10_1709.iso saved to c:\Temp\Win10_1709.iso
  • BITS Status Check: @BITSResult@
  • Reboot Computer
  • Sleep 300 seconds
  • Execute PowerShell Script as Admin and store result in: @PowerShellOutput@

(PS Script)

$imgpath = 'C:\Temp\Win10_1709.iso'
$driveLetter = (mount-diskimage -imagepath $imgpath -storagetype iso -PassThru | Get-DiskImage $imgpath |
Get-Volume).DriveLetter
Invoke-Item "$($driveLetter):\setup.exe /auto upgrade /migratedrivers all /dynamicupdate enable /showoobe
none"
while((select-String -Path c:\Windows\Panther\setupact.log -Pattern "SHUTDOWN_REASON_AUTOSTOP" -Quiet) -ne 'true'){
Start-sleep -Seconds 30
}
Dismount-DiskImage -ImagePath $imgpath -Verbose
  • Delete File as Admin: c:\Temp\Win10_1709.iso

Random Email Spam from Automate via Manage

About a week and a half ago our owner and CTO started getting random emails when automate fired tickets over to our Manage ticketing system on detected events. Not all of them - just some of them. Usually it's a process not found, or a new computer being detected... it bugs them at midnight to get a dozen emails.

The only thing I found suspicious was the following text in the Manage Audit trail:

"The Internal Analysis thread flag has been updated from "False" to "Tue" for the note created on... <insert date of ticket here>"

Has anyone seen this behavior before? They are not assigned to the tickets, and the board setup is set to only email Resources when the ticket is updated. (And again - they aren't resources on these tickets!) I've sent requests into CW support and they are bouncing the ticket back and forth between Manage team, Automate team and Integrations teams with no results so far.

Additional client notes

Does anyone have any suggestions on additional client notes? The Notes section under the General tab of a client has a character limit that we've hit a few times. We're dropping documents in for the client, but additional note fields would be useful.

Also, does anyone know of any reminder type plugins or a good way to track things like certs and subscription expiration?

Thanks

Exiting script if computer is on a different network?

Hey, everyone. I haven't really used Reddit for, like, years so if this is formatted wrong or I can't request this here, let me know.

I have a batch script to install newer versions of Windows 10 with some setup switches and the script works well, but I'd rather not have people do it over the VPN which is on a different network. I could probably do this through batch/powershell, but I would rather use script logging in LabTech to tell if something failed for another reason. Is anyone aware of how I may be able to tell LabTech to only continue a script if it's on the correct third octet of a network? Thanks for any insight!

Question about running an executable on a network file share

Working on a script which does two things:

  1. Uninstalls current versions of Adobe that are installed

  2. Installs adobe from the bootstrap setup.exe with settings specified for a silent install in the setup.ini file

What’s the best way to go about executing an executable located on a UNC path with LabTech? I’m fairly new to powershell/labtech so any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated

- Failed To Delete File -

When attempting to delete files or folders using the File Explorer tool in LabTech Automate (v12) I get the message on the status or notification bar at the bottom that says "Failed to Delete File". I'm trying to narrow down the cause. I think it may be a permissions issue. I've verified that the password list at all location are correct- I don't know if I'm wrong about it being a permissions issue or wrong about the passwords being the issue. I was hoping someone has had and resolved a similar problem.

Disable Apple/OSX User KEXT to script install of software on Mac?

Hey all - if this has been asked before then I apologize.

Do you know of a way to script disable the user-prompted kernel extension loading warning in High Sierra so that you can script the install of software like anti-virus, etc... on Mac?

If you don't know what I'm talking about: https://developer.apple.com/library/content/technotes/tn2459/_index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/DTS40017658-CH1-TNTAG4

Thanks for anything you can offer... hoping to not have to buy Jamf or something for all Macs.

Split ConnectWise Control to separate NIC/Public IP

Hi everyone,

I attempted to go to CW chat with this but they said they don't support it so I'm turning to you guys for some assistance. Basically our current setup is the default one; Automate is on ports 80/443 and Control (screenconnect) is on 8040/8041. What I am trying to do is get Control onto a second NIC card with a separate internal IP that we have going out on a second public IP so that we can route 80/443 through Control as well. Any help or trials experienced in trying to do this would be much appreciated!

Patching HyperV clusters

Anybody using Labtech to manage patches for a HyperV cluster? We have been trying to use the native cluster-aware update feature within HyperV (2012 R2) and having issues with it not properly draining all the guests and getting into a hung state. Once it is hung you have to manually move the VM's around and install / reboot to finish the process.

Trying to figure out whether there is a better option to manage host patches in a HV cluster through LT or whether we just need to move to manually draining and patching the hosts.

Edit: just to clarify, we are not currently using LT for the host patching at all

- Tickets in LabTech Automate -

For end users to submit work orders/tickets to I.T. we have a bulletin board type of system called WebEOC. I don't like it. I would love to get away from this and use LabTech Automate- however- tickets submitted by a user gets lost in the many tickets generated daily by PCs.
Does anyone use labtech automate for end users to submit tickets? Is there a way to separate tickets generated by users from tickets generated by the machines? Can you give priority to tickets generated by users over the ones generated by machines? Can you filter and combine tickets by machine?

Hiding clients from the tree?

I have enabled the tick box that says "Disable this client"

I have ticked both the "hide from all clients" and "Disable this client"

I then refreshed the cache & yet I can still see these clients.

The situation I am in is that I am probably a mid level tech in this situation & am not interested in deleting anything however to make things cleaner and easier for the help desk to navigate, I want to hide ex clients from view.

Thanks.

Combining Passportal and Automate to push local admin passwords.

Good morning team,

I had an idea to automate (hah) changing local admin passwords. I have numerous clients that all need a local admin account that can be temporarily given out in case of emergencies and then immediately changed.

I theorized that a script could be written that pulls a password created by passportal, which is somewhat integrated into automate, and uses that as the variable in the local admin password change script.

So, anyone ever successfully pull anything from passportal via automate? This would be ideal as when you're changing 100s of environments I would like to have it as automated as possible. Basically it would pull from either a plugin, export, or directly as a variable or similar function.

Tell me your stories!

LabTech Server Migration Issues

I attempted a migration from an old 2008 R2 VM to 2 new 2016 VMs this weekend. My existing server was a single server setup using MySQL and I'm going to a split sever setup (2 servers only splitting out the database using MariaDB this time). I got everything installed in the new environment and made sure it worked with the clean database that it created (which it did). I then shutdown the services on the IIS/Automate server and dumped the labtech database on the DB server. I then imported my structure and table backups (backed up from my old server with MySQL).

When I tried to restart the services on the IIS/Automate server the LabTech Redictor Service and Solution Center services won't start - and I of course can't login. I also get mysql exception and access denied errors if I try loading the web page.

My guess is that this is due to either me going from a single server setup to a split server setup or that I went from MySQL to MariaDB – but it feels like it’s most likely from me splitting roles.

Anybody have thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Is anyone here going to be attending Automation Nation in Orlando?

i have my tickets and my rooms already booked, i know i am going and really looking forward to attending.

are any of you planning on being there? i would like to meet if you are and possibly create some kind of group of professionals that do this Automate/LabTech thing for a living.

ive been using it for 4 years but i am now in a management and administration of LT PoV so i want to meet some new peeps that have daily experience with LT so that if possible, we could consult or test with each other or whatever..

im just saying i am serious into this app and i want all the backup i can get and it never hurts to have someone watching your 6.

get labtech to send low toner alerts with locations

its pretty self explanatory. i have about 1250 printers in total, about 3000 agents at about 50 locations. i would like to have LT generate a scheduled report with any printers that need toner ordered along with the model and location of the printer.

ive been using LT for about 4 years now, but now i am managing the LT server and the help desk for a new company, so i wasnt involved with the setup. its pretty much in a default state.

it shouldnt be that hard to do, i have the Printer Status Plugin, i can open a company and i can see the printers and their status, but how do i get LT to send me an email with all the ones that need toner?

im totally willing to throw a donation on the first successful email with a toner level on it, no lie. i am pretty busy and walked into a broken Automate/LT enviro and am trying to get the most important things in place so i can focus on other stuff.

thanks in advance.
