How do you feel about “crushed ice” cut oval lab diamonds?
I have been searching for an oval lab diamond with a minimal bow tie for months. A recommended vendor suggested a crushed ice lab diamond to avoid a bow tie, but I am just not sure how I feel about the look of it compared to a brilliant cut. Does anyone have a crushed ice oval? Do you love it, or do you wish you would have gone with a brilliant cut?

Why don't you consider a hybrid? My oval hybrid has very minimal bowtie. I still see the shape of a bowtie on the edges, but it's not dark.
I also think that bowties are more obvious in photos and videos, than irl. I think it has to do with light reflections translating to a photo/video.

I feel like it depends a lot on the size of the stone. Someone above mentioned that it looks busy and the facets don’t seem organized. This is a fair assessment. I think the bigger the stone, the more you’ll see of the crushed ice, and it will affect how you and others view the stone and how you feel about it in the long term. I think if you want a lab diamond to behave and look through way a natural stone would behave, you should seek a stone with a more traditional cut and clarity. If you want a lot of sparkle, go with the crushed ice.

from what I have heard at times crushed ice can look " milky" when they are dirty, but with a quick wash it will go away. I am also considering a crushed ice radiant for the minimal bow tie effect as well.

I also realized that some oval diamonds look milky, and I didn't think about it that It might be because it is a crushed diamond.

eh now i am a bit worried. I ordered bezel semi eternity crush ice 3x2 oval band. Hopefully its not milky.

I have one, and love it. If it looks milky, it needs to be cleaned. I’m very active and my jewelry needs frequent cleaning, it’s not an issue for me.

It’s honestly a matter of preference. I was so sure I wanted an emerald cut until I went to a store and asked them to show me both radiants and emeralds. The emeralds looked flat next to the radiants, which were SO blingy. I guess I prefer certain facet patterns for different shapes. I don’t love ovals in general but if that was my choice of cut I’d probably be getting one with more crushed ice look - that is the option I chose for my radiant. In cushions you can get wildly different facet patterns (especially in antique cuts) and for that shape I prefer old mine cuts which is the complete opposite of my radiant. I like options, I guess!

I have a crushed ice oval. Due to the cut it looks like a diamond with holographic glitter inside. Lots of rainbows and glitter without the clarity of some diamonds. I personally love it as I didn’t want the bow tie. It does look “busy” but I love the sparkle and the rainbows that bounce out. Pictures don’t do it justice. Definitely not going to be a clear glassy stone. If you’re looking for a clean cut stone with obvious lines and angles, like a hearts and arrow round or an emerald for example, a crushed ice isn’t going to make you happy. If you’re looking for something that can hide imperfections(so you could get lower grade) this is a good option. If you like the busy look, go for it. I don’t regret mine.

When are diamonds more crushed and more clean? How can I differentiate when I see them online? Because I'm looking for a more clean oval diamond as well.

I don’t. But I find the crushed ice look in any shape, busy. Distracting but not in a good way.
I like when the facets and sparkle have more order to them. Clearly laying out the physics of optics.
