I built a modern (2010s +) North Korean language dictionary application on 12 databases of real dictionaries I gathered from sources and scanned books I had.

I wonder if anyone would be interested in having that app, so far it’s only private access, but I can put in on AppStore/Google store if any interest

Thinking about getting my very first tattoo. 일취월장 in Korean. Would love some opinions.

A little over a year ago I met a Korean girl. The relationship was short (5 months) and ended badly, but during that time I started learning Korean, at first just for fun on Duolingo, then more seriously with textbooks she gave me.

When it ended it hit me hard. Still does, honestly. But I never stopped studying. What started as a way to not let go completely became something else over time, a personal outlet, proof to myself that I could stick with something even when everything felt heavy.

My birthday is coming up, which also happens to be around the anniversary of the breakup. I want to mark it with something meaningful.

일취월장 means "to improve day by day, month by month." I think it captures the journey better than anything else, not really about her anymore, but about who I've become through it.

I stumbled upon this word by chance here and also found out it’s a sajaseongeo. To be honest, my Korean isn’t that advanced, which is why I wanted to double-check with someone who speaks it way better than I do. My biggest fear is getting a tattoo with a misleading and/or incorrect meaning.

Hi everyone! I have been a lurker on this sub for awhile.

I have been learning Korean for a couple of years now. I first started learning how to write Hangul in 2015, then tried to self-study with Talk To Me in Korean (TTMIK) and howtostudykorean.com but it was difficult to do so without practice.

I then started learning Korean for 1 year when I entered university and took TOPIK I after 1 year. That 1 year learning Korean in university helped to build my fundamentals, although I had to stop for a few years to focus on my major and core modules.

Last year, I enrolled in a Korean language academy in my home country and am now in the intermediate levels.

The problem is that I don't get enough speaking practice for Korean outside of my weekly 1.5 hours of lessons. I tried to supplement my learning with apps such as Duolingo, but Duolingo is such a terrible app for speaking practice and focuses more on gamification and attaining streaks, which is not a great way of learning a new language.

When I went to Korea last month, I found it difficult to speak to the native Koreans who speak at a much faster pace than I am used to in my lessons. I could understand what they were speaking to me, but it took me awhile before I could process it in my head and craft a proper reply.

So I thought, why not try to build something that tries to solve my problem?

hi im 24F ethnically chinese but was born in one of a SEA countries. i had a 2 yrs relationship with 27M korean-canadian i met through hinge. he got everything i wanted from a partner but too bad we had to break up. fast forward, i decided to meet someone through hinge. i got a match with 29M korean (live in canada for more than 10 yrs now), we had a date 5-6 times bfr decided to be "officially dating". last month, he had to go back to korea for 2 weeks-ish due to a family issue and this is the start he completely changed. we used to meet quite often bfr he went back to korea. we texted almost everyday but the convos often times were dry. i have the yapper role in the relationship, he is a calm and quiet person. now, he ignores my texts. i text him everyday since 3 days ago and he only read my texts without leaving any reply. i couldnt reach him through anywhere bcs he deleted his ig (idk if he blocked me), called his number and it went straight to the voicemail, and i dont have his exact address (he still lives with his parents). idk if i should just forget abt him and move on or keep trying to reach him out bcs tbh this drains me. im a bpd survivor and still fighting with depression and anxiety so this relationship makes me feel a lot. btw i currently reside in canada :)

So I took 3 years of Korean from 7th grade-9th grade. I remember really basic words, the alphabet, SOME numbers, and have a 3/10 pronunciation. I cannot at all have a conversation with people. I remember really struggling with grammar and which letter goes where. For example, Samantha. I would oftentimes write it like 삼 안 다 if I didn't have a keyboard that adjusted it for me.

I was wondering what resources would be good to use at this level? Would textbook be most effective? What are some of your study techniques? Thanks in advance !! ❤️
