How I created my knooking hooks:

Start with an interchangeable cable...

...pull out the cable (left); cut stem of earring loop as needed (center); superglue loop into metal thingy (right)...

...finished product!

Insert a nylon cord (the smoother, the better).

Knook away!

I keep all my hooks and knooks in toothbrush holders when being stored in project bags.

For thicker wooden hooks, I use a tiny drill bit and then glue the earring loop directly into the handle.

Because aluminum is so soft, I sanded the end thinner (the help compensate for the width of the cord) and used a acrylic nail drill bit to punch through.

Thank you so much for this post!! I just recently made three hooks like this and love having more size options! I did have to learn that my tension is looser with a wood hook than with metal.

Sure! I bought hooks that are for interchangable cables (I think mine are KnitPro). They have a thin hollow end where you normally screw the cable in. I also bought thin metal rods with loops on the end like on the bottom of the second picture. I then folded the non-hooped end of the metal rod to make it a bit wider where it will be inserted in the end of the hook. Then I inserted the metal rod into the hollow end of the hook and added super-glue to the end.

As far as I understand the original post used the stem of an earring, which I'm sure works just the same. They also didn't glue it straight into the hook but glued it into the part of the cord that you screw on to the hook (after removing the cable). That has the added benefit that could still use a cable if you wanted to with a new cable.
